Composition lessons are designed specifically for anyone interested in writing music (or improving their writing skills) and are often taught in conjunction with music theory and/or ear-training studies. Basic composition lessons always begin with a review of the fundamentals of music theory, along with an introduction to melody writing and score analysis. Intermediate composition lessons further these foundational studies, introducing the creation of musical “roadmaps”, to outline and detail a piece’s significant events, and an overview of musical genres and compositional tools. Advanced composition lessons continue to explore and expand on previous areas of study, especially score analysis and tonal harmony, to enhance the student’s ability to create their own unique artistic voice through their compositions.
