Levels taught:
Beginner, Intermediate, AdvancedI work with students on both the craft and creative side of music in an enthusiastic and nurturing environment. This approach is aimed at awakening a student's drive to explore their own musical path both inside and outside the lesson. Within a lesson, we will work on (1) instrumental technique and basic music theory, very important aspects to us as players, and (2) improvisation/composition and having creative musical discussions, which are invaluable to us as creatives. From my experience, this approach has been essential to coming into my own musical self.
I am currently offering lessons in Irish and Scottish fiddle, gypsy swing violin, and music theory, ear training, improvisation, and musicianship. I am also eager to help out with any of your specific interests and help out where I can.
Really excited to work with you! Let's make music!
About Adam B.
Just a little about myself:
I like to think of himself as a musical chameleon. I am an up-and-coming, award-winning multi-genre violinist with over 20 years of experience and over a decade of classical training. My music is rooted in the Scottish fiddle tradition and gypsy jazz violin, as well as other genres of world music. My past awards include first place at the mid-atlantic open Regional Scottish Fiddle Competition (run by Scottish F.I.R.E) and Best March, Strathspey, and Reel at the open US National Fiddle Competition, the nation’s most prestigious competition for Scottish fiddle. During my previous time in Atlanta (I recently moved to the Boston area), I served as the lead Scottish fiddler for the Rialto's Atlanta Atlanta Celtic Christmas, and played with two Atlanta-based bands, FLAN, as a multi-instrumentalist, and Oakland City Swing, as a guest jazz violinist.
More importantly, I believe teaching is one of the most important things we can do as musicians. As previous students can attest to, I really try to approach the lessons from a nurturing, uplifting, and enthusiastic perspective. At the end of the day, I am here to help you awaken your passion to follow their own musical path, and I hope I can help along the way!
