I've been drawing my whole time practically, and it's something that I always want to be doing more. Whether it's looking outside at the still landscape, or recreating a moving scene, drawing has always been a passion of mine.
I can help you with putting what you see in your mind onto paper more genuinely. We'll work on perspective, scale, color gradients, shading, detailing, and much more.
Hi! I'm Dr. Jonathan Saraga; professional musician and educator living in New York City. I have been working as a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and studio musician for almost 2 decades and have been teaching full-time for the past 7, which includes nearly 3 at the University level. I have nearly 10 years of conservatory training, a Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degree, as well as over 20 years experience performing, recording, and competing on an international level.
I’ve been recognized internationally, by way of several organizations for excellence as a trumpeter and composer: 2007-Winner of International Trumpet Guild Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition; 2009-Finalist in Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition; 2011- Selected Participant in School for Improvisational Music Intensive Program; 2014-Callback for the Juil
liard Artist Diploma program auditions; 2015-Selected Participant in Banff International Summer Intensive Program in Jazz and Creative Music ; 2016-Semi Finalist in International Songwriting Competition; 2016-Recipient of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award; 2017-Honorable Mention and Finalist in International Songwriting Competition; 2016-19-Full Scholarship w/ Paid Assistantship/Instructorship for Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder; 2019-Selected Participant in Banff Early Fall Musicians in Residence program; 2019-Finalist in Chamber Music America’s New Jazz Works Grant Competition.
I perform and record as a featured musician with Festival of New Trumpet Music, having participated in two world premieres, and in ensembles led by highly acclaimed and/or Grammy-nominated/winning artists such as Steve Coleman, Henry Cole, Maria Schneider, Darcy James Argue, Orrin Evans, Josh Evans, Jimmy Greene, Tyshawn Sorey, Eric Bergen and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. I've performed at arenas, clubs, and concert halls alike, such as Carnegie Hall, The Putra World Tower, Symphony Space, the Barclay's Center, Dizzy's Club Coco-Cola, and Rockefeller Center to name only a few venues. As a leader, I've been performing original music all over NYC at known creative and jazz venues like Seeds, Cornelia St. Café, The Bar Next Door, Jazz at the Kitano, Shapeshifter Lab and Smalls Jazz Club, which Down Beat magazine considers to be two of the best jazz clubs in the world.
Besides professing a passion and skill-set for music within the ‘jazz’ idiom, my interest in and usage of sound draws from and many other forms of art. I've composed and arranged music for lyricists, improvised music for poetry readings at the Firehouse Space, and have provided musical accompaniment for dance classes, workshops, and performances presented by the Martha Graham Dance Academy and the Jeoffrey Ballet School. I've even co-choreographed short plays and have played for Marc Jacobs fashion runway shows.
My music also extends into the health and wellness community. I've served as a regular performer at the New Life Expo, and as a musical aid for art exhibitions (including a Syrian-post war realist art exhibition), Yoga classes at Jivamukti Jersey City, and meditation classes for WeWork, St. Peter's Church at the Citicorp Center, The Tibet House, Triskelion Arts the Firehouse Space, the Jewish Community Center, the New York Insight Meditation Center, and the NYU Skirball Theater.
As an educator, I have taught all-level/all-age group music playing and appreciation courses for several New York-based organizations: The Afro-Latin Jazz Academy, The Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York, New York Ensemble Classes, the Lyceum Kennedy International School, Jubilee Enrichment Programs, Jazz Empowers and The New York Jazz Academy. I have also completed 6 semesters of service as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I taught multiple playing ensembles as well as three semesters of a 100+ student History of Jazz lecture class for non-majors.
I teach out of a my home apartment studio on the upper east side, complete with weighted 88-key digital piano, Bose high quality speakers, recording equipment, as well as musical media, and tablature spanning many musical genres, cultures and time periods. I also am equipped with a spacious floor space for Yoga, Pilates, Weight Lifting, Meditation, and more.
While I specialize in the following broad areas of musical study, my specialties are not limited to: General Music, Composition, Arranging, Ear Training, Music History (includes classical, jazz, and world musics), Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Songwriting. I also specialize in the following instruments: Trumpet, flugelhorn, and Piano/Keyboards.
Last but not least, while I have invested over 30,000 hours into my musical training, my interests, practices, and skill sets extend beyond sound and visual art, and into the realm of philosophy, science, physics and spirituality. I have been practicing various forms of fitness, meditation and Yoga for the past 5 years, and my studies span the gamut of psychology, philosophy, calisthenics, Astral Projection, Reiki, Vipassana Meditation, Visualization, and much more.
I believe and live by the idea that creativity is an energy that flows through us, and one's creative abilities can be improved and expanded, through the emotional body, which is influenced by one's perceptions. Throughout my training in music, the arts, as well as my physical, mental and spiritual pursuits, I have realized that discipline, creative flow, and love for what one is and what one does can come together and yield great fulfillment and sense of purpose.
I would highly recommend Jonathan as a music teacher. Jonathan is absolutely passionate about music, which is evident by his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. In a short period of time, my daughter's keyboard playing abilities have dramatically increased. I am very grateful to Jonathan for making learning fun for my daughter, who always looks forward to her lessons!

We will learn how to draw from real life/still life to paper with graphite, ink or charcoal. We will understand line forms, shading styles and line control. We will gain a strong foundation understanding of using basic shapes to get final images.

My goal is to teach you how to see the world around us as a canvas and cull your visions from it and recreate it to your desires. Guiseppe is great! He explained basic techniques very well and make sure I understand all before we move on the next.
Would you like to learn to draw the world around you? Look no further! I am a professional, exhibiting visual artist and drawing is my passion! I have a Masters in Education and have been teaching for over 10 years. I have experience with adults and children alike and absolute beginners are welcome. I will design a personalized curriculum to fit your needs. I am a visual artist who has been exhibiting my artwork across the US since 2009 and teaching since 2006. I got my BA from Vassar College, and a Masters in Education through the NYC Teaching Fellows program. I am deeply passionate about drawing and love to share this passion with others. I believe that art isn't for the talented few but for the passionate many and what counts most of all is that you're having fun!
My drawings tend to celebrate the beautiful and surprising in the mundane. I have worked in a variety of media but my preferred material is good old-fashioned pencil on paper. I have had solo and group exhibitions, my work has been published in print and online, one of my drawings is on the cover of a philosophy book, I have exhibited at several art fairs, and I have won many fellowships, grants, and artist residencies.
Our drawing lessons will begin with learning to use the most basic materials: charcoal, erasers, pencil and paper. We will spend a lot of time learning the art of looking because above all, drawing is about observation and translating what you see. You will begin to notice improvements in your skills after the first class!
My 6 year old daughter really enjoyed her online drawing lesson with Jessica. The lesson was well-structured and thought through. The materials Jessica picked were diverse and informative. I was amazed how Jessica made the online lesson seem as if she was right here in our house. I asked my daughter how many more lessons should I set up for her and she answered: many, many more! I strongly recommend Jessica to any student learning graphite drawing!

Both of my children take class with Jessica. She keeps the lesson fun and really encourages both of my children. She is very talented and knows how to reach young artists to help inspire them. I highly recommend her as an instructor. This was our third class with her and we have every intention to continue taking lessons with her.

Jessica is really a great teacher and a nice person! She helps me from a completely beginner to finish a detailed pencil sketch portrait in 15hrs. Definitely recommended.
Learning to draw from observation is a skill that most people can develop over time with patience and practice. My interest lies in teaching the student to see differently, to use their tools properly and become self-sufficient.
I attended the Art Students League of New York (2013-17/ present) and New York Academy of Art (2017-19) where I've been focusing on drawing and painting from life. I'm interested in students who are new to art, experienced at drawing or advanced students who want a new perspective.
I have been interested in drawing since I was 5, and if you are as passionate to learn how to draw, I am here to help you feel confident to get the basics down.
I am a communications designer, I graduated with a bachelors from Pratt Institute 2019. I went to the HighSchool of Fashion Industries 2010 - 2014 with a design garment shown on WWD Magazine my senior year. I have always been interested in different art forms, like drawing, painting, sewing, music, movies and videos, designing logos and posters, clothing. I especially love the process of designing because of where you start and where you end. The future can be quite exciting. Learning shouldn’t be a chore, it should be fun and exciting in creative ways.
Well equipped to teach any age/level with experience teaching in studio and a BFA degree in Illustration from Pratt Institute. As a working artist, I can share my unique relationship with visual learning and interpretation with the student.
I am a working artist/musician based out Brooklyn. With a degree from Pratt Institute, I am well equipped to teach all aspects, technical or conceptual, of drawing, painting, and design. As a full time professional, I can introduce the student to a world that I see everyday and a very tangible understanding of process of making art. An understanding and relating of many ideas through the visual vernacular of the things around us.
Kavi has a depth of insight into color and emotion that is hard to find in an art teacher. He inspires you to find moments in between your daily life, hidden behind monotony, that you can only appreciate when you have relaxed your mind. He is the perfect guide for those who aspire to not only learn the basics, but to bring new life and freedom to painting and illustration.
I have been teaching professionally for more than 10 years. I can teach a total beginner and I guarantee a profound change in terms of his skill level after 2 months of an attentive following of my instructions. I like to watch the progress of my student and this is what brings me the best satisfaction in my occupation. I think that every human being is unique with his own unique way of thinking and perception of common things. When teaching, I believe in dialogue, for this reason, I never record my lessons on video, except for the promotional needs. I like to meet new students, to understand their way of thinking and to invent the individual teaching approach or methodology for each one of them.
I am an academically trained professional artist with the overall working experience of about 20 years and an impressive record of exhibitions (two of them are museum one-man shows) in the USA and abroad. I am teaching in three languages: ENGLISH, HEBREW and RUSSIAN, representational, realist, impressionist/post-impressionist, expressionist (Fauvism and Expressionism) and abstract painting and drawing with the emphasis on European tradition. I am working and teaching in different mediums, like charcoal, graphite, acrylic, oil, watercolour and soft/oil pastels. I have a Russian classic art education, MFA from Pratt Institute (Painting /Drawing) and about 15 years of teaching experience. Currently, I am working as a commissioned portrait artist and also performing on stage with some well-known musicians as a multimedia artist and re
al-time digital painter. As an art educator, I specialize in students of different ages and skill levels. I have developed a methodology for teaching the beginners of pre-pension or relatively late age. I believe in dialogue in education and for this reason, I never record my lessons, except for the promotional purposes. I teach online, in my studio or at a student’s home.
