Mr Yakov is very pleasant, patient and professional. He makes learning fun. One of my daughters is very shy and particular. I was concerned for her first violin. But she ended up loving the lesson and the instructor. We did some lessons online and at his studio. During the online lesson, the connection with our internet was horrible. He could hear her playing but she couldn't hear him. Yet, patiently, he got creative and taught the lesson with my daughter through chat. The environment of the studio is comfortable. You can tell he's passionate about what he does. That left me with a great impression of him. We look forward to more lessons with him for as long as we can.
Thanks Mr Yakov!!!
In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 7 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for ones creativity.
Flutist, Roberta M., is equally at home playing classical and new music. I Care If You Listen has extolled her “lush, full tones… even among the best professionals, not many flute players sound so compelling in a lower register.” Praising her “extreme adventurousness,” New York Concert Review said she “riveted with her performance, inspiring one to want a repeated hearing.” Roberta is a founding member of the Cadillac Moon Ensemble, a quartet of unusual instrumentation dedicated to commissioning and performing new works. To date, the group has commissioned over fifty pieces.
Roberta holds a Bachelor of Music with highest honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master of Music from SUNY-Purchase College, and Doctor of Musical Arts from the City University of New York Graduate Center. Her teachers include Robert Dick, Tara H
elen O’Connor, Alexa Still, and Jean Rosenblum. Roberta resides in Brooklyn, New York where she teaches privately and is on faculty at Great Neck Music Conservatory.
Roberta has performed with groups including Duo RoMi (with pianist Mirna Lekic), the Portland String Quartet, SEM Ensemble, Wet Ink Ensemble, Argento Chamber Ensemble, Wordless Music Orchestra, Ensemble Moto Perpetuo, Lunatics at Large, Kagel Nacht, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Cheyenne Symphony, and the Greeley Philharmonic in venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tulley Hall, Merkin Hall, The Kennedy Center, Bargemusic (with tenor Robert White), and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As a guest artist, she has appeared at Bloomsburg University and the University of Southern Maine. She has recorded on New Dynamic Records, Meta, Bridge, and Innova Records.
Roberta has been a Bang on a Can Summer Institute fellow and a participant in the Institute and Festival of Contemporary Performance at Mannes College, as well as participating in festivals at Banff and Domaine Forget. Roberta recently won the Artists International Special Presentation Award and was presented in her debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. Other awards include: Purchase College’s Baroque Concerto Competition, Bay Chamber Summer Music Woodwind Prize, Dante Alighieri Society of Denver Music Scholarship, and the Emily K. Rand Award.

With over a decade of teaching and a doctorate in flute performance, I have extensive experience teaching flute lessons and recorder lessons to students from beginners to advanced. I teach at my studio in Brooklyn or can come to your home in New York City. I have previously taught in Colorado, Westchester, NY, and throughout New York City. I've been on faculty at The Harmony Program and the Denver Public School’s Saturday Music Program, where I taught beginning flute classes to public school children. I have given masterclasses at the University of Southern Maine and the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School, and have taught music classes at Purchase College and Hostos Community College.
*** Studio Equipment *** I have a studio with music stands, flutes, recorders, an upright piano, and place for parents to wait. Street parking is available, and I'm less than a block from the subway.
Students are expected to bring their instrument, music, and a notebook.
*** Travel Equipment *** I bring my flute. Students need to have a music stand, music, a notebook, and a working instrument.
*** Specialties *** I am well-versed in all areas of classical music, especially new music. My primary instrument is flute, but I also enjoy teaching beginner piano, recorder, and music theory.
Roberta was patient and was obviously an experienced teacher. I teach and I understand what it takes to put a lesson together so that the student gets the most out of it, while pushing the student to do better, but not too much to discourage them from moving forward. She hits that sweet spot! I would recommend her to anyone who was serious about learning.

she has got a very lovely and cheerful personality. It made me really want to practice more piano even though i haven't played it for months.
I've been playing the flute most of my life and studied with a few of the best flute professors in the country. I have been teaching privately for 7 years. My teaching style is very flexible, though I expect dedication and hard work from my students. As my student you will learn not only flute, but you will gain a general knowledge of music theory and harmony, knowledge of musical phrasing and interpretation, as well as proper movement and body alignment similar to Alexander techniques.

Music has always been what I love to do. I am deeply grateful to all my teachers and mentors throughout these 18 years such as Judith Mendenhall, Samuel Coles, Paul Edmund Davies, Wissam Boustany, Luis Garcia Renart and many others. I have performed in concerts throughout the United States, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe in such halls such as Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Harvard's John Knowles Pain Concert Hall, Yale's Woolsey Hall, National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Shanghain Grand Lyric Theater, Hong Kong Cultural Center and the Megaron of Music in Greece. I have a lot of orchestral experience due to the rigorous orchestra program that I attended at Bard Conservatory, but at the same time have explored a lot of the solo repertoire for flute, flute and piano as well as flute and orchestra. Chamber music has alway
s been a passion for me. I particularly enjoy playing music written for Woodwind Quintets. I think that all aspects of performing as a flutist have their own unique beauty.

Lauren has recently moved from Copenhagen to New York and
would like to share reviews from previous students in CPH: Julie K.
"Fantastic, competent and sweet teacher! Really good at developing one's technical ability but at the same time also supporting and maintaining the pleasure of playing and motivation. Super Clever! I am very pleased with the teaching."
"I like the lessons with Lauren because she knows what level you're at and is eminent at challenging you from there. Lauren is always in a good mood and is really good at encouraging you to keep going. All in all, a great teacher!"
"I have been taught by Lauren at the beginning level and I have been very fond of her teaching. Lauren is good at communicating, and with her friendly and enthusiastic essence, her teaching is something that I look forward to. I can definitely recommend Lauren."
"I highly recommend Lauren as a teacher. She is both professional and educational. I have become aware of a lot of things that I did not know enough about before. All of the teaching has been very well done. It must be said that I am extremely satisfied with her teaching!"
"I was taught by Ms. Galick for 3+ years. I learned so many things from her and had such a great time being her student. She knows how to fix the things th
at need fixing and always has great analogies for things. We would joke in lessons very often; she was funny and knew how to get me on track. I improved so much in the years we spent together."
"Heidi is an awesome flute instructor and I'm so glad I found her for my daughter. She's upbeat, positive, encouraging, and patient. It is obvious she lov
e music and loves sharing her knowledge. With that said I would also like to add that she is a very accomplished musician and not only knows the subject matter but is excellent at imparting that gift to my daughter. Heidi has many tricks up her sleeve to aid her student's progress including video homework excercises and additional websites for practice that I would never have found on my own. She's incredibly proficient with how to use the computer for lessons and has kindly worked with us to navegate Skype, fix glitches, find additional sheet music, and advised us on purchasing new music and a new flute. She is very good at motivating my daughter and she continually comes up with new exercises and websites to use in order to nudge her a little bit more into developing new skills while challenging her as well. Heidi is thoughtful, considerate, and has spent time getting to know us and remembering details of our lives. Our lives are busy and schedules always change but Heidi is very amenable to making adjustments. I would highly recommend using Heidi as a teacher and have mentioned on many occasions to friends how great she is AND we don't have to leave the house, big bonus!"
