I've taken lessons from a number of double bass teachers. I've never found an instructor who gave me exactly what I needed until Geoff. He's the consummate professional double bass player and teacher. Geoff is intelligent, courteous, patient, humorous and above all knowledgeable. So, if you're a serious upright bass student, I would, without hesitation, recommend Geoff Bowater.

Yu Yu is excellent. My son learned so much in the first one hour online lesson. The online communication posed a challenge, but she was able to communicate thoroughly and effectively for my son to understand and improve on his technique and posture. I am confident we chose the right instructor for him.

I have had many good teachers in my career as a musician. But I have been lucky to have had a few GREAT teachers. It is easy to settle with "just ok", particularly when taking lessons as a novice. However, the difference between a "good" teacher and a "great" teacher at any point in your journey as a student can hugely impact your success and relationship with the instrument.

As a teacher, I aim to be great for my students. For beginners, we focus on developing a solid base - getting comfortable with the instrument, understanding it, building fundamental skills such as how to hold the bow and basic fret board patterns. From there, we begin learning to read music, which I still find to be the most valuable skill a musician can have. Learning to read music notation is easiest at a young age, so I like to begin as soon as the student is ready. However, as a student of improvisational music, I like to introduce ear-training and improvisation as well. It is a fun way to teach students how

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 6 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students since then. What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
