About Diane
I have a degree and certification in violin and piano from the Boston Conservatory as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. I have had additional training and certification as a Suzuki teacher from The Suzuki Teacher Training Institute. I am a member of SAGWA-Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area as well as SAA-Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have played all around the world including the Vatican, White House, Paris, Russia, England and Wales as well as in Concert Halls such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. I have taken students with me to perform as well in these countries and also every major concert hall in the Washington, D.C. area. I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.

Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.

*** Lesson Details ***
I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.

I have also started a toddler music appreciation program geared for the 1-4age range. The purpose of this program is to expose very young children to the fun of Music through instruments, songs and play.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras.

This was the most un-professional experience I have ever* had with anyone, I cannot believe how rude he was, & I remained nice the entire time, but beware he is out to only steal your money. Rather than showing me what I wanted to know, he wasted my time by changing my folders, folder settings, where I download to, all things to specify himself working on the computer and even re-named my files to his name. My ex is a Teacher & a long tern tutor. He recommended that I get a full lesson, maybe a few weeks, but at this time I simply wanted to know the v-lookuo function only, as I had the date ready to go, with a deadline. He refused to show it to me, as he said I had to learn the basics which I already know. He did not even open up Excel. If I had not been so specific with him, & even offered to hire him for a long term tutor session, I might be able to see him trying to show me the basics, but we never even got that far. He told me to buy a 3 pack, then when I went to do so he took the opton away, and said that I had to buy, 3 but separately. I understand from talking to others why he did this. He apparently had something come up, & had to go and disconnected our call, without saying anything aside from, "buy more at 9 am tomorrow". I think he thought he was with a 7 year old & must milk them all out every penn fast. I would personally have wanted the long term money instead of a quick 50$ something dollars. It was exactly as if he had no time for me but instead of saying he had personal engagements he took my money & left me hanging when I could ahve literally been fired from my job for not getting this report in, in time. I stayed up until dawn the next day to compete it by myself, with a local Craigslist person, who was so kind & professional & showed me what I needed on an immediate basis. No playing around the whole time. I spent more on the new tutor as he was so very smart & actually knew what he doing. I never, leave reviews. i may have left 1, or 2 at a locl restaurant that I adored, but this was something I felt I eeded to do, so YOU

About Detrece
DeTrece "Dee" Lavender is a native of Miami, Florida. When her family moved to Sarasota, she was afforded the opportunity to study music and the performing arts as a student of the Westcoast School/Henry L. Porter School of Music. It was then that Dee began to understand the power of the creative arts as an effective form of emotional expression and release. By middle school, DeTrece began fine tuning her natural talents by studying classical voice which earned her several starring roles in the Sarasota Youth Opera, The Aslo Theater and the Players Theater. She is also a proud former member of the Westcoast Black Theater Troop in Sarasota, FL. Under the caring leadership of these opportunities, she was able to combine musical and life experiences in order to offer a more well rounded educational and musical experience for her students.

She was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she received a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy and Vocal Performance (Class of 2003). It was through her service as a music therapist, Millieu (residential) counselor and music teacher in the Boston City Public Schools/Greater Boston Metropolitan Area, that she began to feel the call toward a greater understanding of the gravity and role of the socio-emotional needs of students (and their families/villages) in urban settings. This call brought her to Baltimore, MD where she enrolled in the Pastoral Counseling Masters of Science program at Loyola University. In addition to her studies, she currently teaches Elementary and Middle School choir/ Musicianship teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids Program. She also serves as Minister Of Music and Arts at two local churches.

My name is Eric Matthew Brown I am a tutor with a four year college degree (B.A.) in math and philosophy and a sum total of thirteen years experience in professional tutoring. I put emphasis on theoretical comprehension and in tutoring I exhibit precision, clarity, and most of all patience. Frequent repetition and further explanation of theorems and definitions are necessary. I also have the ability to tutor logic, politics, and civics (American government).

Hello from Seattle! I love teaching! For more than 40 years and I have been a professional photographer. I was the Team Photographer for the Washington Stealth pro indoor lacrosse team for three years, and teach photography at the Pacific Science Center, the Bellevue Club, The Leica Store, Glazer's Camera, Omega Photo and other locations. I have shot professionally since I was 15. My photos have been published in several magazines and I have three photos published in the New York Times. I was the mission photographer for the first private spaceflight - Space Ship One, and the first ocean plastic cleanup system. I have experience shooting dozens of cameras from nearly every manufacturer. I often write camera, software and lens reviews for online sites. I am also a former employee of Apple in their advertising department.

I love teachin
g:

~ Photography 101, Basic Photography How To's
~ Learning How to Really Use Your Camera (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica, Panasonic, Olympus and more)
~ How to pick and use the right lenses for the task
~ Photos for your Online Store: Table Top Photography
~ Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop
~ Photo Processing, Editing, Storage
~ Basic Portrait Lighting
~ Travel Photography including making travel books
~ Black & White Photos from your Color Photos
~ Sports Photography
~ Printing Fine Art Photos
~ Color Management
~ Mac computer setup and optimization for photography

and other topics that may be of interest to you. I especially love doing a portfolio review with you where I give you honest critique and suggestions on how to improve your existing photos and think about elevating your new photos.

I like to start with new students by talking on the phone or emailing before our first lesson to get a good sense of your experience and your goals in getting more instruction in photography. I do not charge for this initial conversation once you have registered and scheduled your first lesson package.

Three of my students have gone from amateur to professional and are selling their work.

I am married (28 years!) and I have two boys - one in high school and one graduating college. I have several students in their early teens - I love teaching them because they're so motivated and unafraid of the technology.

We can do lessons together online using Zoom - we can see each other, hear each other, share screens and I can show you step by step how to do everything we cover! Zoom conferencing is free, there's nothing to buy, so it's included in my lesson prices. My students love our online sessions - we go at your pace and answer all the questions you have. My students range in age from 11 to 80.

I am most proud of this comment from one of my students:
"There is a difference between teaching and mentoring. While the terms seem similar they are distinct in their approach to the recipient. Brad is innately both with the lessons I participated in. He is a teacher and a mentor.

He taught me but he also "brought me along". On one hand, he gave me excellent raw knowledge and technique but still, on the opposite side of the coin, gave constant reality-based feedback and pushed me without hurting my enthusiasm. He told me about his successes and shortcomings "once upon a time ago" and I didn't see him as infallible as many instructors want you to, I saw him as having lived a path, scouted it, and coming back to help show me the way. He didn't just tell me where I was going wrong, he showed me, then showed me how to correct it, then guided me through the process of correcting it, then followed up. Who could ask for more than that?

Brad is the total package when it comes to instruction. I am a better photographer for having studied with him. I am also making my dreams come true as a businessman. I owe most of that to him. I look forward to my next lessons, but honestly I more so look forward to what is behind the doors he will inevitably open up for me."

Teaching has become second nature to me, as I have enjoyed working almost 10 years for one of the biggest technology schools in the US. I have supported campuses of 700+ students, 60+ employees and supported up to three campuses at one time. Under the role of IT manager, I still had to teach daily and was responsible for student professional projects to ensure their education stuck and was usable in the the workforce. Everyone can learn something, I want to make sure you understand it! I love to work with students at their level and watching them grow, by developing those weaker points while allowing their strong points to motivate them into a level of not just learning a topic, but completely understanding it!
