This is the focus of my vocal studio, and I began teaching in this style when I opened my voice studio in 2005. Curriculum will vary depending on your experience level with the subject and voice type. Technique is instructed from a variety of backgrounds, with basis in physiology of healthy voice production due to my combined background in classical vocal performance and voice therapy.

About Kristen

COVID has changed the singing game, and I like to believe that it opened the opportunity to sing to those who otherwise wouldn't try it. I hope more people find joy in these moments of isolation through creating music from their homes! I want to dispel the myth that only a select few are "gifted"

Kristen is great, she gives useful exercises to do at home and pushes you just hard enough. She really tailors the lessons for the student.

I am so thankful for Kristen! She is so knowledgable, patient, and a fantastic teacher. I highly recommend her for beginner singers.
Catheryn L.
I love Kristen!
She's so good at explaining the most confusing things about singing technique (which for a beginner is a lot). She's very patient and it's heartwarming when she gets excited about the times I do something right. I trust Kristen with my voice and I like how she encourages me to do hard but fun repertoire. Would definitely recommend!

P.S. Her voice is absolutely beautiful. You know you have a good teacher when she demonstrates something and you think, "I want to sound like that."

I was trained as a classical pianist taking private instruction for ten years, and discovered in 1982 that the Hammond B3 organ was my true love. I primarily teach the blues style of performance, and will teach you proper chord voicings, use of the volume pedal and the drawbars. These techniques are what completely sets the organ apart from its piano counterpart.

With a Master Of Music degree in Voice Performance from Boston University, I am passionate about helping each student discover his/her unique voice. A student of the esteemed operatic soprano, Phyllis Curtin, my pedagogy is founded on the principles of classical bel canto technique. With strong emphasis on maintenance of a coordinated singing posture and fully supported diaphragmatic breathing, my teaching allows most students to see improvements in ease and beauty of tone within two lessons.

I do believe that time spent outside of one's lessons applying the technique in private practice is THE MOST important building block to mastery of one's voice. I encourage all students to record their lessons for use in their private practice. Objectively listening to yourself and developing a discriminating ear for your sound is essential to successful development.

In addition to teaching, I am a busy performer in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing the singing voice for celebrated drag ...

Erik was a warm, engaging, intelligent, and FUN vocal instructor. My husband and I took lessons for our wedding performance and continued afterward as well because it was so fun! Erik has a bounty of knowledge, an incredibly precise ear, helpful tips, and a lot of patience! Highly recommend him for any style of vocal signing as he has a broad range of technical talent and is very precise in his feedback. Erik you rock!!

Erik is a fantastic voice teacher and is a wonderful person. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I have recently started voice lessons with Erik after a 10+ year break from singing opera and choral music, and I have learned so much from him already in the two moths we have been working together - posture, breathing techniques, analysis of the text and score, ....
Our lessons are well organized, very helpful, and a lot of fun. I look forward to my weekly lessons with Erik and hope to study with him for a long time.
Max
I had the good fortune of participating in two master classes led by Erik Chalfant. Erik is very knowledgable about the mechanics of vocal production, but what’s more is that he inspires as he teaches. He is engaging and energetic, and also very effective. He connects with his students, regardless of their level of expertise or experience. I have recommended Erik to several fellow musicians, and would again without hesitation.

Hello! My name is Sarah and I am a recent graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, where I received both my MM as well as my BM degrees in violin performance. I've studied with with many world renowned musicians and am a very active international performer, performing from CA and CO to London and Cuba.

I am a native of California, born and raised in Los Angeles and have been surrounded by musicians my whole life. With both my parents and my brother playing the cello, I have always found passion and love for music and the community built by musicians. I started playing piano at a young age and after a few years transferred to violin which I then dedicated myself to and grew into my career.

Lessons are whatever you need them to be, but in general I will focus on using scales, etudes and solo repertoire to: solidify technique, improve ear training, and expand your musical portfolio.

I believe that music can be learned and loved by everyone from young children to adults and by ...

Sarah really helped me with my basic techniques! I've been trying to learn how to play violin by myself over the pandemic and finding online lessons with her was the ANSWER. She's incredibly kind and patient and explains posture and walks me through scales and etudes to strengthen my basics. Sarah also has a broad understanding of repertoire, which I hope to also be able to play soon!

Every student is unique, so I will tailor the lessons to you and make it fun! I'm passing on to you the training I received from the very best master teachers of the violin. Stringed instruments are challenging, but I believe in enjoying making music at every level, while establishing a strong foundation in good technique. For learning fundamentals of music theory and ear training, we will play various rhythm and improvisational games. I have extensive background in European classical music, and I've also done quite a bit of improvisation, some fiddling, and electric violin and viola. Whether you want to be the next Joshua Bell or the next Lindsey Stirling, I can help you improve your playing. I will help you sing, dance and tell a story through your violin or viola.

About Gloria

Born into a musical family in 1966, I have extensive performance experience as a classical violinist and violist, and I've been composing my own music since 2000. Gloria has been a wonderful and inspiring teacher over a period of very formative years for me as a violinist. We first worked together for all 4 years of my undergraduate violin performance degree at Mills College from 2010-14, and Gloria helped me develop a lasting appreciation for listening deeply and developing focus for small details. We worked together on everything from solo Bach and Hindemith sonatas to concertos, chamber music, and orchestral excerpts. She has been a lasting influence in my life as a musician, and I will continue to return for musical and creative advice over the years even when I live far away.
