About Diane
I have a degree and certification in violin and piano from the Boston Conservatory as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. I have had additional training and certification as a Suzuki teacher from The Suzuki Teacher Training Institute. I am a member of SAGWA-Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area as well as SAA-Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have played all around the world including the Vatican, White House, Paris, Russia, England and Wales as well as in Concert Halls such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. I have taken students with me to perform as well in these countries and also every major concert hall in the Washington, D.C. area. I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.

Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.

*** Lesson Details ***
I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras.

About Detrece
DeTrece "Dee" Lavender is a native of Miami, Florida. When her family moved to Sarasota, she was afforded the opportunity to study music and the performing arts as a student of the Westcoast School/Henry L. Porter School of Music. It was then that Dee began to understand the power of the creative arts as an effective form of emotional expression and release. By middle school, DeTrece began fine tuning her natural talents by studying classical voice which earned her several starring roles in the Sarasota Youth Opera, The Aslo Theater and the Players Theater. She is also a proud former member of the Westcoast Black Theater Troop in Sarasota, FL. Under the caring leadership of these opportunities, she was able to combine musical and life experiences in order to offer a more well rounded educational and musical experience for her students.

She was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she received a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy and Vocal Performance (Class of 2003). It was through her service as a music therapist, Millieu (residential) counselor and music teacher in the Boston City Public Schools/Greater Boston Metropolitan Area, that she began to feel the call toward a greater understanding of the gravity and role of the socio-emotional needs of students (and their families/villages) in urban settings. This call brought her to Baltimore, MD where she enrolled in the Pastoral Counseling Masters of Science program at Loyola University. In addition to her studies, she currently teaches Elementary and Middle School choir/ Musicianship teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids Program. She also serves as Minister Of Music and Arts at two local churches.

About Joey
Hello Artist-in-Progress,

We are all artists-in-progress because, no matter how good we are, we can always get better!

I'm Mr. Joey and I love art and I love teaching art! I am a graduate of The Art Institute and an artist and animator that creates art in pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, and digital mediums.

I recommend that classes are *at least* 1.5 hours (and I really recommend 2 hours!) because that's what's needed to critique homework assignments, warmup, and do the work for the class, and not be rushed.

Classes I teach are:

• Drawing Fundamentals
• Advanced Drawing
• People and Anatomy
• Portrait Drawing
• Cartoon Characters for Animation
• Character Design
• 2D Animation
• Digital Painting in Photoshop
• Digital Animation

Please view samples of my work and contact me with any questions you may hav
e.

I look forward to helping you develop your art skills and express your creativity!

She was great to work with. My husband spent extra time chatting with her because she was so knowledgeable and helpful. We are excited about taking another class with Vicky, in the future

About Chet
Hi!

I'm Chet a senior Information Systems undergraduate student at UMBC. I have been tutoring Computer Science for over a year at bSmart Learning Center in Ellicott City, Maryland, and I love it - I find great satisfaction from seeing students develop their coding skills and gain an interest in the subject! I try to make my lessons as engaging as possible and give practical examples of each concept I teach. I place a great emphasis on practice; I believe that there is no substitute for learning how to code than to practice. With every lesson I aim to challenge my students and push the boundaries of their understanding.

I'm easy to get along with and I'm accommodating to all people with all levels of experience. I've always been told that having me as a tutor has made computer science classes easy for students and served them as a st
rong preparation for AP exams and future courses. I've worked with students from elementary school to high school. I strongly believe that no matter your age, it is never too early or too late to start coding!

I have coursework in C++ and Python and have tutoring experience in other languages like Java and JavaScript. I've had lifelong experience with computers - even as a child, I was interested in building and modifying computers. I spend my free time learning new technologies and developing software, which is what I hope to do after I graduate! It is a uniquely rewarding experience to build a piece of software and I hope to share my enthusiasm for it with you.

Feel free to message me with any questions or schedule a lesson with me!

About Aaron
Greetings!!!
My name is Aaron and I currently work in the enterprise IT industry. While my job is fulfilling, I couldn't help but feel the need to impart my IT-related knowledge/helpfulness on those who require it! Being able to help someone understand a new concept is something that brings me great joy, and I only hope that I will be able to provide personalized and quality assistance to as many people as I possibly can.

I've tutored beginner-level college students recently in languages such as Java, Javascript (including libraries such as React and frameworks such as Angular) and Python. Basic programming concepts such as flow control, variables, and looping have also been covered with these students. Slightly more advanced subjects have been covered such as OOP, web API’s, CRUD applications (with relational and NoSQL databases), and s
tate management patterns such as Redux.

Along with my professional background, completing University has exposed me to a wide variety of IT and coding topics. With this knowledge, I can further drill-down on how a particular coding concept can be utilized and how it can affect/look-in a real world situation. A reference to real-world usage will allow you to gain a deeper understanding by attributing your newfound knowledge to a specific action/activity.

I am a firm believer of” learning by doing”. My assistance will consist largely of you making an effort to solve a problem (with code) while I standby and correct/point-out mistakes and explaining what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how to fix it. If you feel that you'd like to grasp coding concepts that maybe weren't taught well, or learn new concepts, I would love to assist you!
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me! I’m looking forward to helping you progress your understanding of coding!
