My 10-year old daughter and 6-year old son took a few ukulele lessons with Nanette. Per my kids, they did not feel like she was engaging with them. They had hoped that she would make the lessons a fun experience and it was not for them. She would probably be a better fit with older kids and adults. We have decided to seek future ukulele lessons with a new teacher.

Although I took only one lesson with Jessica, she gave me a terrific foundation that is now allowing me to then go forward and learn more on my own. I will likely schedule additional lesson with her once I get stuck and need more personalized help. Lessons with her are a great way to get introduced to or brush up on Photoshop. Yay, Jessica!

I had some very specific questions and design concerns that Jessica was able to answer clearly and in a manner that allowed note-taking and testing on my part, which is of course the point of on-line learning. She's a very thoughtful and thorough instructor and I will be taking more classes with her going forward.

I had a great first lesson today! Jessica was very thorough but also made it easy to understand for someone with no experience. Her teaching style is down to earth with very open dialogue - she not only went through the basics but touched base and made sure to cover aspects and relate to things in which i set as my goals. I am looking forward to the rest of my classes with Jessica!

About Bill
I have always been a self-studier in my entire life. Being able to learn with just books and your brain is a crucial skill to have! However, I know not everyone (and sometimes even myself) have the discipline and motivation to keep going during hard times. This is where a tutor would come in handy.

I enjoy tutoring and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!

Aside from academics, I enjoy playing the piano. I also play the occasional volleyball and improv theater.

My son had to take the ACT for grad school and did not have enough time to prepare thoroughly. Bill was able to clarify all the majority of my son's questions and drilled on particular questions that gave him trouble. The preparation genuinely helped as my son received a 33 overall on the ACT.

In the last few months, I have progressed considerably. Bill helped me be more confident on my playing, and to rely on sheet music rather than memorization, which was what I used to do. This in turn allowed me to learn many pieces in parallel, and be exposed different types of pieces. He also helped me learn an anime song that I wanted to learn despite it being slightly out of reach for my level.
