I have supported Math,Engineering and Computer science students at the graduate, undergraduate and professional level helping them develop a rigorous approach to logic based proofs for their discrete math;We were able to set the stage for strong foundations in functions, number theory and algorithms as a window to programming at the advanced level. With USC Math 400:Foundations of Discrete Mathematics; for instance we defined Cardinality as the number of elements in a set confirming countability of sets based one to one relationships with positive integers. We tested countable sets such as rational sets and sets of positive integers;Weaving through the SCHRÖDER-BERNSTEIN THEOREM as a way of finding correspondence and equality of sets.Through structured learning I have also created study templates for computer science majors to navigate through their discrete math/structures requirements explaining to them the concepts of bijection, injection and surjection; For Engineering students we ...

Music Theory is essential for every well-rounded musician. A musician should know why something sounds good. Simple theory includes note names, reading music, melody, and rhythm. Complex theory includes how extended chord structures relate to each other, Serialism, and harmonization.
Vince first encountered music theory when he began playing trumpet and reading music. He learned the basics; notes, scales, triads, key signatures, and time signatures. Later (especially when he first studied guitar and piano), Vince studied intervals, exotic scales, and chord progressions. At college and graduate school, he formally studied advanced music theory as applied to tonal harmony, twentieth century music, and jazz.
Often, theories are built upon other theories and thus support each other. Vince teaches the basics up to more advanced theoretical concepts - to any musician regardless of instrument - how they can be successfully applied in practice.
Vince privately teaches trumpet, guitar, electric bass guitar, arranging, composition, music theory, ear training, and improvisation to students of all ages and levels. “Basically he’s the go-to cross-genre horn-blowing utility man of the Philly scene” (John Vettese, WXPN’s The Key). Vinc

My experience teaching mathematics, combined with my coursework background, prepares me to tutor elementary, middle, and high school students at a wide spectrum of levels. Specifically, I am a ready and enthusiastic tutor for students interested in support with basic math, pre-algebra, algebra I & II, trigonometry, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus AB, and calculus BC. My own mathematics coursework has extended most recently to linear algebra and multivariable calculus, due both to personal interest and to the specific requirements of Harvard's physics major track.
Currently an undergraduate at Harvard, I have long enjoyed sharing both my love of learning and the reserve of strategies that I've build up for overcoming academic challenges. In my experience, successful tutoring hinges on a flexible and dynamic teaching style, honed to each student's unique combination of strengths and struggles. There are many different ways to understand any concept or learn any skill. As a tutor, my ...

I should also mention that, having read some of her own writing, she is an exceptional writer herself and has significant experience in writing and tutoring analytical, creative, and scientific writing (I have come to her for help with all three types!). She also has a terrific intuition for how to structure an essay in a given context and purpose, which is something I particularly struggle with. As a final note, I would add that Sophia naturally teaches one how to write while guiding you to improve a particular essay, so you end up picking up her skill and experience as you work with her.
Having tried other tutors and attended writing workshops, etc., I can say with confidence that I have never found another writing tutor who comes close to Sophia--including in the quality of the finished products she helps create, degree to which she improves a student's own overall writing and organizational ability, and the way in which she tailors her approach to fit what is needed for a particular student, assignment, and even particular essay draft.
