I'm a published pro photographer living in Seattle teaching all levels of photography and photo processing and printing. My focus is making it fun to get up to speed quickly.
SCHEDULE NOTE: This is a very busy time of year for me. My availability is quite limited, so please check with me prior to scheduling. I have set the automatic calendar very tightly so please ask if there's a specific date and time not listed that you're interested in booking. END OF NOTE
Hello from Seattle! I love teaching! For more than 40 years and I have been a professional photographer. I was the Team Photographer for the Washington Stealth pro indoor lacrosse team for three years, and teach photography at the Pacific Science Center, the Bellevue Club, The Leica Store, Glazer's Camera, Omega Photo and other locations. I have shot professionally since I was 15. My photos have been published in several magazines and I have three photos published in the New York Times. I was the mission photographer for the first private spaceflight
- Space Ship One, and the first ocean plastic cleanup system. I have experience shooting dozens of cameras from nearly every manufacturer. I often write camera, software and lens reviews for online sites. I am also a former employee of Apple in their advertising department.
I love teaching:
~ Photography 101, Basic Photography How To's ~ Learning How to Really Use Your Camera (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica, Panasonic, Olympus and more) ~ How to pick and use the right lenses for the task ~ Photos for your Online Store: Table Top Photography ~ Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop ~ Photo Processing, Editing, Storage ~ Basic Portrait Lighting ~ Travel Photography including making travel books ~ Black & White Photos from your Color Photos ~ Sports Photography ~ Printing Fine Art Photos ~ Color Management ~ Mac computer setup and optimization for photography
and other topics that may be of interest to you. I especially love doing a portfolio review with you where I give you honest critique and suggestions on how to improve your existing photos and think about elevating your new photos.
I like to start with new students by talking on the phone or emailing before our first lesson to get a good sense of your experience and your goals in getting more instruction in photography. I do not charge for this initial conversation once you have registered and scheduled your first lesson package.
Three of my students have gone from amateur to professional and are selling their work.
I am married (28 years!) and I have two boys - one in high school and one graduating college. I have several students in their early teens - I love teaching them because they're so motivated and unafraid of the technology.
We can do lessons together online using Zoom - we can see each other, hear each other, share screens and I can show you step by step how to do everything we cover! Zoom conferencing is free, there's nothing to buy, so it's included in my lesson prices. My students love our online sessions - we go at your pace and answer all the questions you have. My students range in age from 11 to 80.
I am most proud of this comment from one of my students: "There is a difference between teaching and mentoring. While the terms seem similar they are distinct in their approach to the recipient. Brad is innately both with the lessons I participated in. He is a teacher and a mentor.
He taught me but he also "brought me along". On one hand, he gave me excellent raw knowledge and technique but still, on the opposite side of the coin, gave constant reality-based feedback and pushed me without hurting my enthusiasm. He told me about his successes and shortcomings "once upon a time ago" and I didn't see him as infallible as many instructors want you to, I saw him as having lived a path, scouted it, and coming back to help show me the way. He didn't just tell me where I was going wrong, he showed me, then showed me how to correct it, then guided me through the process of correcting it, then followed up. Who could ask for more than that?
Brad is the total package when it comes to instruction. I am a better photographer for having studied with him. I am also making my dreams come true as a businessman. I owe most of that to him. I look forward to my next lessons, but honestly I more so look forward to what is behind the doors he will inevitably open up for me."
Learning to use a camera is highly creative, AND highly technical. Find your balance, learn to use your strengths, and lean on the camera (or other gear) to improve every area of the art! i've been shooting for 12 years, and hired and trained with some of the great photographers around Nashville. The biggest things I've learned are about myself... That is where I specialize! I can help you understand how you shoot. Be the best you can be!
I love people! I enjoy teaching and training, listening and learning, meeting new people and discovering new things. As a Creative Director south of Nashville, I make time to work with children and adults, teaching drawing, photography, Adobe Creative Suite and other creative computer skills. I also coach soccer in Nolensville, TN. My own art reflects a passion for people, as I am primarily a portrait artist in photography as well as with pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor. I started with teaching art classes in High school, then as part of wilderness trips in the white mountains, teaching creative survival skills. I work often with youth athletics and skills training, with the children in my church, and all ages as a mentor, tutor, and coach outside of regular business hours... Lately I have been helping photographers and models build
their brand identity with pictures. - - What are your creative needs?
He answer to my question and clarify my doubts and concerns about a particular lens I got.

Daniel was outstanding and very patient. I knew a little about drawing and he took me to the next level. My art is very lifelike and realistic thanks to Daniel.

Daniel is great, he is extremely knowledgeable. He explains things in detail so that you have a thorough understanding of how Indesign works and interfaces with other programs. He is happy to answer any and all questions and moves at a good pace.
I'm Sandra. I've worked with thousands of photographers and designers – from beginners to the best in the business in print, online and video formats. I've helped them find their unique route to achieve their potential. I'm quick, honest, easy to understand; I inspire you, show you steps and help grow. I can help with technical issues but my focus is on helping you see more. In teaching college classes, my main student comment is, "I will never look at anything the same way again."
If you just want to learn software programs or camera operation, go elsewhere. But if you want to learn to SEE and become a true photographer, Sandra is the coach to work with. Although software and hardware are certainly part of our discussion, software and cameras don't make pictures – you, your eye, and your experience are what make your pictures different and interesting.
Every person's path toward becoming a better photographer is unique. Sandra has helped hundreds and hundreds of professional (and amateur) photographers significantly improve their photography and their enjoyment of it. Working with her, results are quick.
You will get far more out each session with Sandra than from a dozen sessions with others and you will learn more about yourself and your potential. Just bring your questions, a collection of your pictures
and we start from where you are.
Sandra is an internationally respected picture editor and designer with a unique experience that runs from contributions to scores of visual books to editing for the White House, work on major newspapers, and the Associated Press. She was instrumental in the creation of the original ground-breaking news site MSNBC.com as well as spearheading creation of the Defense Department's public web program. She has taught photography and editing at three universities and at workshops all over the U.S. and judged multiple national and international photography competitions. But Sandra is still easy to talk to and interested in YOUR concerns and pictures.
Sandra's key skill may be her ability to articulate visual concepts and issues. She can find and convey the underlying needs in a photographer's work and then help him/her find a personal, unique route to reaching his/her potential.
Always fully honest, Sandra is also completely supportive of helping any photographer – from beginner to seasoned professional– become better, see more, and understand their own work on new levels.
Sandra can certainly help with technical matters but her special forte is in helping photographers and designers see in new ways. She has worked with documentary, landscape, fine art, portrait and other photographers as well as designers and website builders.
Group sessions and critiques can also be arranged on request for additional fees.
I wish I could give Sandra TEN stars; five are not enough. She's the best! She helped me see my pictures, and the world, in new ways. I was lucky enough to see her work with a variety of photographers, from students just starting out, to professionals who had been working in the field for years. They all had great things to say about her, and how she showed them how to improve their portfolios. Many of them went on to win contests thanks to her teaching. If you want a teacher that is easily approachable and very accessible, has a wonderful sense of humor, and will take you and your photos to a new level, do yourself a favor and contact Sandra. You'll be amazed!
These lessons will address principals of composition in photography, as well as learning the exposure principle to be able to apply correct camera settings.
A link to an interactive camera setting tool will be provided for the students to practice on their own time.
At the end of the lesson, student will receive an exposure cheat sheet. The list can be stored on a smart phone and consulted any time anywhere while shooting.

Student candidates are advised to research and study this type of information PRIOR to enrolling in the ...
I am a Graphic Designer with a full time job teaching Photoshop and Photography in high school. After receiving many requests from amateur and professional photographers, as well as aspiring graphic designers, willing to learn the unlimited creative possibilities that Photoshop has to offer, I decided to join Takelessons and become a teacher here. If you would like to learn how to create literally anything your imagination leads you to, or just use techniques to obtain an effect you have seen somewhere, you came to the right place. You can discover the secrets of professional photo retouching or dive in the surrealism of advanced photo manipulation, Each lesson will be customized to your specific needs. On the other hand, if you are just getting started in Photography, Photoshop or Graphic Design, you have likely tried those You T
ube videos and gave up in frustration, as most of these videos are too fast or too advanced. No worries, we can go through the basics at your own pace, until you feel comfortable with using the tools on your own. The sky is the limit.
Note: in order to book classes for advanced techniques, students must have the necessary basic and intermediate proficiency levels. If you are not sure what your level of proficiency is, please check with me and we can figure it out together.

It was a real pleasure to do a Month long bachata classes with Kimmy. It was a worthwhile time investment. Kimmy is very passionate about dancing and teaching. I am grateful for the new dance skills and confidence she helped me gain!
December 2, 2018
I'm not naturally coordinated in dancing much less for paired dancing, for that reason I was apprehensive and anxious about bachata dance lessons with kimmy. At the end of the first lesson I left feeling having learnt new moves and confident about using them. Kimmy is skilled and knowledgeable about teaching dance because the pace is not rushed, she provides appropriate cues and thoughtful commendations!
December 1, 2018
I highly recommend Kimmy! She is a great teacher; she was patient, understanding, and comes prepared. I completed my first dance sessions with Kimmy and came out with a better understanding of how to dance. She instills confidence with her teaching and cares that her student gets the most out of every class.
I will listen to what your needs are and cater to that. My experience in digital photography goes back to 2001. I know how complex the world of photography can be but I will seek to leave my ego behind because I too had to learn from others and frequently in a classroom setting the instructor unfortunately can't help the individual.
I have been taking digital photos since 2001 but started when I first fell in love with Photoshop. My favorite subject matter is nature but the principles of taking a decent photo will be similar for any subject matter.
I photograph large events and headshots and believe in the importance of a first impression. I learned posing techniques from working for a large national company but apply some of these principles even at events.
While I now shoot with my cell phone too, I am well versed on how to operate a professional camera (Canon) and this is what I will be teaching you.
Wanting to get out of using "Auto" mode and understand your camera? Are you looking to step up your game with composition or color theory? Maybe you are looking to understand post-processing better. I have been teaching and training for 5 years, 3 of those in photography with many more years in photography itself. There is nothing I don't enjoy shooting and there is nothing I enjoy more than teaching the art of photography to others. My entire family are all artists, from painting to designing, so I have lived art my entire life, all 35 years of it. My lessons are custom and personally built for you and will meet your expectation and accomplish what you want to specifically.
It all started as a child, and I didn't even know it. I always looked for what I used to call "The Postcard Scene" in any situation. I kept an eye out for that in everything I did and every where I went. Slowly but surely, I came to realize I had been training my eyes for photography.
I eventually started getting into the technical side of it with Nikon and became Master Certified for Nikon on that front. I was a product and technical advisor for the local clientele from the news stations to portrait/studio photographers and even gallery photographers. I eventually started branching out on my own, creating my ow portfolio and loving every second of it, from designing shots to post-processing them.
I love all things creative and all aspects of photography, but if I had to choose a favorite style, it would be a hard choice between Landsca
pe and Nature. I love the unique, unusual perspectives as well as the problem-solving aspects of capturing what I experience during that Sunset, or that day of Trailblazing.
I want to share my thoughts and theories with you too, as well as teach you the technical side of it. Photography is very personal and a form of art, let me help you start or move ahead in your journey in this amazing world of photography.
Thanks again for your time and info yesterday. I will email you soon, and we will figure out when we should meet for our next class.
ve a great day!
"I learned a lot and super proud of myself! Wonderful and patient instructor."
"Great personality and clearly knows the photography ins and outs. I am rescheduling more lessons now."
"Joy is lovely and has been very flexible with my schedule. You can tell she loves photography and enjoys teaching. If I was more of an online learner I w
ould have rated the session a 5. I am now realizing I am more of a hands on person it is personally challenging for me to learn using this method. In an ideal world we would be learning by shooting in real time."
"Mrs. Julie is great at making sure I feel comfortable with the information taught!"
"Sarah was great! She was very clear and thorough in explaining how to operate and get familiarize with my new camera . She is knowledgeable and has a real
passion for photography.Great experience and I am looking forward to my next class with Sarah."
"I am so thankful I found Jon via takelessons for photography lessons. He is an amazing, encouraging and a patient teacher. Before the class, we discussed
my goals and Jon came up with a lesson plan to help me meet those goals in 3 days of classes. I have learnt so much during our classes so far - the impact of light on photographs, the importance of talking with the subjects/models and the benefits of patience and being a keen observer. Jon is ever so helpful and is always suggesting ways to help me improve my photography skills. Thank you Jon!!!"
"Sarah was on time and she did her homework! She uses a Cannon and have have a Nikon, she read the owners manuel prior to the first lesson, very impressiv
e. She answered all my questions and looking forward to the next lesson."
"Nick was awesome. Helped me choose the proper camera settings to optimize conditions and maximize the quality of the image. Educated me on controlling se
ttings for various light conditions and depth of field. Very helpful and well worth the drive. I will definitely call on him again to fine tune what I've learned once I have a chance to practice."
