I'm an experienced teacher, performer, and songwriter/producer. I teach piano and voice to beginning and intermediate students of all ages!
My students learn not only learn to play or sing the songs they're most interested in, they also learn about the music theory behind the songs, so they can flex their own creativity! I also have music industry experience and can teach students about songwriting, live performance, home recording, production, self-promotion, and forming a band.

A natural teacher at heart, I teach Piano, Visual Arts, and Yoga. I earned my Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Teaching and my California Teaching Credential in the Visual Arts and have been teaching professionally since 2012. I began playing the piano at age seven and advanced to honors recitals of Certificate of Merit through the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC). I have experience teaching ages 4-65 and beginning through early-intermediate levels. Beginners are my specialty and I currently teach 12 piano students a week. I use a variety of materials like flashcards and book series to teach classical, jazz, pop, and sacred styles: Alfred’s Basic Piano Library, Bastien Basics, Bastien & Bastien, Faber’s Piano Adventures, FunTime Faber & Faber, Piano for the Older Beginner, Alfred Masterworks, and Hal Leonard Songs from Disney. Students have the options of borrowing my used books or purchasing new books.
My new students love the patience and personalization that I bring ...

I want my piano students to learn to love music but also to have a good grasp of theory and technique because that transfers to any and all instruments and styles of music they wish to pursue. Generally the beginning of the lesson is spent on strength and technique building exercises. We also study scales and music theory and then spend time working through songs to reinforce the concepts presented and help the student progress in their abilities. I train my students to be able to read the music rather than just play by ear so they can pick up and play any piece of music they choose. For beginning piano students the types of songs are more basic since they are designed to reinforce music knowledge and note reading abilities. More advanced students are able to play from different styles including classical and modern.

I build up technique and musicality, beginning with scales and instructional books which provide pieces of increasing difficulty. While this is a more traditionally classical method of learning, I also enjoy playing in other styles such as popular and anime music. Especially because of my personal interests, I am very open to teaching you the genres that you are interested in performing. ~

I am a certified Steinway education partner with over 17 years of teaching experience.
As a professional musician, I love sharing my passion of making music with others. Whether you are totally new to piano or a seasoned player wishing to brush up your skills, I can help you develop a more in-depth experience with piano. During lessons I emphasize skills such as correct note-reading, attention to details in the music, developing proper technique, critical thinking and listening, creative problem-solving, efficient practice, and exploring new repertoire. To encourage growth and consistent improvement, I recommend all my students to perform once or twice a year in my student recitals at Steinway Hall but this is entirely optional and based on the student's comfort level.
I am very patient, encouraging and supportive of my students. All I ask for is a commitment to make music an integral part of your life. Whatever your skill level and personal goals may be, I will help you ...

4-5 months in, I can confidently say that I'm loving him as my keyboard instructor! He personally encouraged me to practice using the music that I love, while blending it with his teaching to exactly point out on how one needs to approach these things. He's been really flexible in terms of scheduling during this time and that has also allowed me to come to class when I'm at 100%.
I don't know if my keyboard abilities are next level compared to when I started (it has improved), but I'm certainly enjoying this process!"

My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Mr. Garcia for 1 year and I can notice a great improvement in her musicality and technique. Now she is able to play piano with confidence and joyfulness, now she really loves to play her favorite music in piano! Mr. Garcia is very professional and serious piano teacher, but at the same time he makes the lesson fun and very interesting for my daughter."
Brent is a great teacher for any level of piano player. I tried teaching myself for the past year (mainly off youtube) but I've made more progress in 1 month learning from Brent that I have in 12 months on my own. While always taking into account my personal piano goals, Brent is able to identify ineffective aspects of my technique and gaps in my understanding of basic theory and has titrated the perfect amount of new attainable material to keep me engaged and sitting down to practice every chance I get.
Highly recommended for any style (jazz, classical, blues, pop, etc...)."

He has helped me improved significantly within this short period with both piano skills and theories. Marwan makes sure to understand your skill level and music knowledge in the 1st class and prepare the class based on your current skill level. I am in my late 20's and considered a beginner player, I was a little nervous in the beginning that I won't be able to learn as quickly as younger kids do and might struggle. But that thought disappeared immediately after my first 2 classes with Marwan. He understood it very well about what I wanted to learn and needed to improve at that stage. The class with him is super FUN.
I've had other instructors in the past but I always ended losing interests in playing after a while for various reasons. Because of that, in comparison I can say Marwan is very different from my past instructors and experiences, I enjoy the class very much and always look forward to the following week's class to find out what I will learn next.
He can be strict sometimes but because of that, you are always reminded what's not right with your plays.
I am very satisfied so far and HIGHLY RECOMMEND Marwan!!!
(But at the same time if he gets tooooo popular, I will be sad not to have the flexibility of getting his classes...lol)"
