EXPERIENCE: With 33 years of performing and 18 years of teaching experience, (teaching beginning to advanced drumming, and beginning guitar, piano and voice) there is much to give back to inspiring music students. Rick has performed and recorded with a variety of musical groups, and is currently working on a new CD with guitarist-songwriter Dave Wagner. Rick continues to perform with many local San Diego Rock, Funk, Soul, Pop, Blues and Christian Praise Bands (including an Elvis Presley Tribute Band and a Jimi Hendrix Tribute Band). EDUCATION: Rick has studied with many professional music Instructors/Musicians: Troy Luccketta (Tesla), Gene Hoglan (Testament), Greg Gerson (Gloria Estefan, Billy Idol, Roger Daltrey), Dave Wagner (Doctor X, Bleedstreet). Rick continues to study with local San Diego, world class Musician/Educator, James Morton. Rick has also studied music with James Morton, among other professors, at San Diego Grossmont/Cuyamaca College. Rick is a full time Musician, Music Coach and a lifetime student and has earned his BA in Human Development (2007) at San Diego Christian College. Combining this knowledge with his musical education, Rick has developed an effective teaching method which allows him to connect and adapt with students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. *** Lesson Details *** Lesson Details: Students will learn timing, rhythm and listening skills, music theory and song form, basic drum, guitar, voice, and/or piano exercises and stretching and breathing. All of these lead to learning and performing songs, (in under 2 months, if the student makes progressive effort). Rick is laid back, but to the point and honest. (50% + 50% = 100%) Student and teacher progression = Combined efforts ;) *** Studio Equipment *** Instructor Studio: * 5 piece drum and 3 piece drum set, * Acoustic and Electric Guitar and Bass, * Piano and microphones, and Boss Dr 90 metronome, * Sure-Microphones * Roland - PA * Pencil ;) * Room for parents to sit in, inside or outside of lesson room. *** Travel Equipment *** Student home practice: * Student must have Musical instrument of his/her choice, in order to practice lesson material at home. * A metronome or internet service is another important tool for all musicians and Music students. * A 3-ring binder w page protectors to keep track of lesson plans and exercise sheets. (Student must bring, Instrument and Binder to each lesson (Drums are provided at studio lessons). * Loaner instruments are available on a first come- first serve basis. *** Specialties *** Basic to Advanced Drumming. Proper grip and posture, to stick control and learning songs. Trap set, hand drum and percussion. Metronome/ear training Basic theory and notation Defining Melody, Harmony and Rhythm and bringing them together as one. Strumming, finger exercise and songs.
