Basic music skills and reading. Fingering, scales and beginning songs for students to start building their piano skills,
My name is Jennifer. I got my degree in vocal performance and minored in Jazz. I began voice lessons myself when I was eight. I am a mezzo soprano, and can teach both female and male voices. I have performed in several opera productions including but not limited to The Marriage of Figaro, Dido and Aeneus, Tenderland, and Hand of Bridge. I have worked and performed in masterworks by Brahms, Chopin, Mozart to name a few. I studied in French, English, Spanish, Italian, and German. I studied diction, ear training, piano, music history, pedagogy, and music theory. I have also performed with artists such as New York Voices, Bobby Mcferrin and Kurt Elling. I was blessed with many learning opportunities to grow in my passion and I would love to pass that knowledge and passion to anyone who wants to learn.
*** Lesson Details *** Lessons are de
signed around the needs of each student. The first lessons is always spent testing range, knowledge and abilities already known by the student. Then the student weighs in on what kind of music they would like to learn and what they hope to gain from the lessons. Theory and ear training are incorporated into the lessons. We work on breathing, technique and style. Generally we start with English or Italian. We work on vocal performance from a classical standpoint but Jazz and Broadway can also be taught if desired by the student. Scales and exercises are given each week to be worked on until the next lesson. A recording device is encouraged if the student cannot play the piano. Also, a voice note book to take notes during the lesson to be used during practice during the week.

Learn to play the songs you love either by sight reading or developing your ear through understanding music theory
My name is Aleksis B., but many of my students know me as Mr. B. I am a professional instructor and performing musician who combines a love of music with a desire to help others who want to achieve their highest musical potential. I try to make that passion show in everything I do.
My education includes classical voice training with Michele Howard Hansen, an opera singer that often performs at the Kennedy Center. I studied piano with Geoffrey Chappell, who writes for Jazz Times. I also received compositional training on multiple instruments from Stanley Cowell, who recorded and performed with legends like Miles Davis.
I have been performing professionally since 1992. I studied education in college and did my student teaching in a music class at Goshen Elementary School in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
I have been teaching music pr
ofessionally now for over twenty years. Some students want to take a few lessons to see if it is something they will enjoy, others have worked with me for over a decade. I have mentored several students who have gone on to professional careers. I have experienced a lot of success teaching young children and those with special needs. I have been blessed with a tremendous amount of patience and truly enjoy teaching anyone who wants to learn.
Whatever your goals or abilities, I look forward to working with you!
*** Lesson Details *** Experience fun based lessons as my teaching approach is relaxed and inspirational. I enjoy working with all ages, adjusting my teaching methods to accommodate your learning style and abilities. Learn to play the music you love! You learn best when you enjoy what you are playing, I can help you play along with your favorites or even write your own songs. I always ask my students at the beginning of a lesson "What would you like to do today?" Then structure the lesson accordingly into a routine that the student can practice on their own. Generally the time is divided into warm ups, learning new material, then picking a fun song the student choses. Whether your interest is Classical, Jazz, Rock, Pop music, etc... I'm here help you reach your goals so let's make your dreams come true with music together!
*** Travel Equipment *** Books, Guitar, music stand, metronome, picks, tuner, page clips, capo, media player, laptop, Keyboard (on request), and recording equipment (on request)
*** Specialties *** With Voice I specialize in helping people prepare for auditions such as American Idol. I have students who simply want to be karaoke stars. I have several professional singers that hire me as a voice coach and producer for recording sessions. I have taught children as young as 2 and those that retired with a lifelong dream to sing. Though my training is classical, I can teach Jazz, Pop, Rock, Rap, R&B, etc...whatever is fun for the student. I highly recommend learning to read music but I do not push it unless parents want their child to.
With Piano I can teach traditionally from Alfred and Bastien Piano Courses depending if they are auditory or visual learners. For Kinesthetic learners I use Hanon scale exercises and Rothman Rhythm Exercises. For those that want to learn notation I introduce classical and Jazz composers unless there is a popular artist/band/movie theme etc...that they would like to learn. However I do not push students to read music unless their parents would prefer it. I tend to keep more students that want to learn to play by ear especially adults by using rhythm training and music theory exercises and then applying them to songs they love. For piano I haven't had much success with children younger than 3. I also have a lot experience working with special needs children.
For Guitar I teach Classical, Acoustic, and Electric all styles and genres. I encourage sight reading but don't mind using tabs. I use more exercises with these students, since the first month students have a hard time making a sound. I try to make the lessons fun by having students strum chords along with songs they chose. I teach lead and rhythm even songwriting and composition. Job satisfaction for me is seeing my students leave a lesson with a smile on their face so I make sure to be a fun based teacher that doesn't give the student a hard time about not practicing.
For Recording and Performance I use the knowledge I gained doing Pro Audio Sales for Guitar Center from 2000-2002 to help clients build their own home studio. I have lots of producers and engineers I work with on a regular basis to produce broadcast quality audio and video recordings and help my students use their lessons and pre-production for those opportunities. I can teach Garage Band or Pro Tools classes on navigating the software and utilizing all the commands. I can also teach room acoustics and using the right microphone and how to position them with the right equipment and the right acoustics to get the best possible tone that they are looking for. I can also teach editing, mixing, looping, sampling, midi, and mastering so that the student can eventually work on their own writing, performing, and recording their music.

you can expect to learn to read music and play a variety of pieces with confidence and enjoyment.
I began playing at 4 years old. I loved classical music and taught myself by listening till I was 6 and started formal lessons. I continued lessons throughout high school with a Juilliard graduate. During my senior year of high school, I had the amazing experience of playing in Weill Hall, located in the famous Carnegie Hall, as part of the young artist showcase. While attending Vassar College, I continued to take private lessons with another Juilliard graduate, as well as taking classes in theory. I also just finished my second B.A in music from George Mason and am pursing a graduate degree in piano pedagogy.
*** Lesson Details *** I have beginner to advanced piano books in both performance, lessons, and theory.
*** Studio Equipment *** Kawai Grande Piano, Yamaha upright piano
I LOVE teaching piano, and all the elements that come along with learning this instrument. Whether you want a solid classical training or you'd like to build on the basics to play with lead sheets, we'll have a blast going through the paces, learning to make this instrument fun!
I have more than 30 years of musical experience. I’ve taught guitar, piano, bass, and theater in private schools, art schools and I’m currently teaching at Classic Axe Guitar Gallery in Gainesville, VA. I’ve taught over 250 students in all levels of experience, tailoring each lesson to fit each student, covering all genres, so that learning their instrument is fun. It’s been exciting to see some of them become music majors, some of them become performers, and some using their skills and gifts to teach others. I love teaching and sharing my musical knowledge with people of ALL ages. I believe anyone can learn music, with the right approach and encouragement. Nothing gives me more pleasure than watching my students accomplish more than they ever dreamed possible.
Andrew is a gifted teacher who prides himself on making the student feel comfortable, no matter their level of experience or ability. This approach has worked successfully for many of his students, allowing them to be more open and understanding of some of the many concepts introduced and practiced while learning the piano.
Andrew is also very adaptable, understanding that each student is different, responding to unique learning styles and approaches that suits them better than others. But one thing remains the same, and that is the ability to enjoy the work as well as feel clear and measurable progress. This is any student's ultimate goal, and Andrew has a proven track record of success when it comes to learning the instrument.
Andrew will work with you to establish clear goals, if you don't already possess them, and be a steady and comforting guide for you on your journey - no matter how far you intend to go.
Andrew started playing piano at the tender age of 3. His mom wanted him to spend his endless energy on something artistic so she started him on piano lessons. Very early on it was clear Andrew had a natural, unique ability to connect with the piano. He played in school bands throughout grade school and began performing around DC in high school. While Andrew also plays guitar, drums, and bass, the piano has remained his first love and primary instrument.
At seventeen, Andrew left DC and started college at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. Andrew studied Jazz Piano but also led big bands, wrote and arranged music, produced, and engineered recordings. Shifting from Jazz to Rock in his early twenties, Andrew joined the band Ambulance LTD, playing live throughout New York City, the United States, and internat
ionally, as well as on the "LP" and "EP" recordings.
Upon returning to New York from touring, Andrew began assisting younger students at The New York Piano Academy—helping them to develop their playing skills, as well as their composing and arranging pursuits. The experience exposed his innate ability to build students’ talents through patience and encouragement, consistently taking them farther than they thought they could go. Andrew realized his passion for teaching and began working with students of all ages, from 3 year-old children to seniors. As a teacher, Andrew focuses on making learning enjoyable while teaching all types of music—pop, rock, jazz, classical, and even Broadway. Andrew tailors his lesson programs to the uniqueness of each student and teaches them not only how to play, but also how to better hear, enjoy, and love music.
Never thought l could to be able to learn a Bach invention before. Now I’m playing it. Very enthusiastic teacher.

Great first piano lesson for my 10 year old - Andrew was encouraging, patient and inspiring- my daughter connected with him right away and couldn’t wait to get home and practice. Looking forward to more lessons!
I adapt my approach depending upon each person's unique learning style. My goal is to instill a love of music for each student I teach. I have taught children as young as 3 and adults as old as 86, and children with autism and dyslexia, as well as exceptionally gifted young musicians. In each case, I passionately encourage students to find joy in music.
I have been a private music instructor for over 20 years. I earned a B.A. in music (oboe performance) from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, and a M.A. and PhD in musicology from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
I enjoy working with children and teenagers. While my approach to teaching piano and oboe is classically based and my approach to violin instruction is Suzuki based, I adapt my method depending on the learning style of the student. My primary goals in teaching is to inspire the student and instill a love and passion for music.
On a practical note, I have four fluffy and very friendly cats living at my home studio. If the kitties create a problem for you, I can travel to your home.
