I have been teaching beginning piano for the last few years. I enjoy helping students to get started on the piano with correct position, music that is fun and beginning theory/sight reading.
As a voice teacher and voice coach, I strive to help the student get to where they want to be vocally. For me, singing is something that brings me joy and I hope to be able to share that with you.
It took me a while to realize how much music and singing means to me. While studying something entirely different at the University of Maryland, I began studying voice and realized that it was something that I had a gift for. I fell in love with singing art songs, jazz, and opera arias. And while studying at the University of Maryland, I had the opportunity to work as a voice teacher/ section leader with the women's section of a choir, numerous opportunities to work as a soloist and in a few jazz clubs. I was also involved in dance performances and acted as a dance tutor.
Later, when I was invited to sing in Denver I had the opportun
ity to sing in Little Shop of Horrors and to sing with a women's choir. While studying at the University of Colorado Boulder I began to come into my own and started to let my large sound free. (Which for me was a process. Getting your voice where you want it and to where it is capable is work. But, it is fun work and you're always happy when you have these great moments where you get to where you were hoping you could and that your teacher said you would go at some point.) It was there, at CU Boulder that I got the opportunity to start singing in operas. While in Boulder I sang in The Magic Flute, Sarah McKinnon and as a soloist or recitalist.
Also, while there I worked as an actress in a theater company called the Interactive Theater Project for three years. I thought that by getting involved in that that I would be able to act more effectively while singing. It was fun just doing something where you're just working with the spoken word. I had a wonderful time with them and learned a lot about character work and what it takes to connect to the words in an effective way.
In the past few years, I have been a soloist and recitalist in the Washington, DC area and have sung opera in Pennsylvania with Center Stage Opera. Last year, I sang with Center Stage Opera in the role of Bertha. I had the opportunity to sing and to act at the Kennedy Center a few years ago. Also during that time, I sang in Aleko, the Die Zauberflöte as the Queen of the Night, Serena in Porgy and Bess, and sang in Ragtime and sang the role of the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast.
I am currently working as a soloist, a children's choir director, a chorus member, the director of a recital series, a cantor, and I'm writing monologues and small plays to be performed. I was working as a co-executive producer/casting director for a show that is on Amazon Prime as well. I look forward to what the rest of the year will bring.
*** Lesson Details *** If you're a beginner, I will help you to understand what you need to get through the vocal line with breath and intonation. We will begin by doing vocal exercises and learn a lot about breathing for singing. I want to help you to make more beautiful tones. I will also slowly begin teaching you how to read sheet music and to help you be a more effective listener when it comes to music. I can also help you to become a better communicator as a singer.
For acting, I will help you to learn how to develop characters and bring the writer's words to life. We will begin by seeing what sort of subjects or genres interest you and what you are doing with those words now, and how you can delve deeper into making the world of the characters something more flushed out.
For beginning piano: I will teach you to learn how the piano is set up, teaching you to read sheet music, beginning theory and to play songs. Something beyond nursery rhymes.
*** Studio Equipment *** Inside my home studio, I have music, a music stand, chairs, WiFi, a computer, a laptop, a keyboard, a microphone, a metronome, a microphone, an amp/large speaker, and a sofa.
*** Specialties *** For voice, I would say that my focus is on classical voice. I also sing jazz, gospel and musical theater. For acting, I have done both improvisational and regular scripted plays.
I have taught students with special needs, and as someone with a twin sister with special needs, I am open to teaching students with special needs.
Nicole is fabulous! We have twins with different strengths. Nicole was able to tap into each girl's potential and tailor their initial lesson so that they both experienced success. You know it's good when they are already talking about next week!

Nicole has a tremendous amount of patience for little ones and knows just what to do to grab their attention. We truly enjoy each lesson!
In a half hour or hour, I will focus on the positive and aspects of your playing that need improvement, with an enthusiasm that will develop your love of the instrument as much as your technical ability. This isn't to say technique will be neglected; all my students will be required to play scales and other exercises, which will probably take about 20% of the lesson time.
I'm a violinist and pianist from West Friendship, Maryland with twenty years of experience on each instrument and ten years experience teaching. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Louisville. I believe in using positive feedback to develop a student's passion for playing music. Beginner to advanced, I can make you a better musician.
Gabrielle is very encouraging. It’s a lot of fun to take lesson with her.
March 7, 2019
Gabrielle has a really fun personality, which only helps to compliment her piano skill. Not only that, but she is very flexible on scheduling, and understands that things can come up from time to time for either the student or the teacher. With this expectation in mind, her lessons really make the most of the 30 minutes allotted, and her skills show as she helps you step through each measure. I've taken piano lessons before, quite some time ago, and Gabrielle was quickly able to adapt the lesson to what I already knew versus what I had to re-learn or learn for the first time. Definitely recommend!

Since ive never done this before i dont have much to go off of, but it was still a great experience that was easy to get started.
We will work on basic piano techniques (crossover patterns, hand positions, etc) while working on specific music pieces to improve your piano playing skills
Hello! A little about me... I have a Bachelors Degree in Music, 15 years of performing experience, and 10 years of teaching experience. I would love to share what I've learned to help you find your authentic sound. I try to approach each student individually vs treating everyone the same, catering to learning styles and willingness to learn. I hope to see you soon!
*** Lesson Details *** I think everyone is born with the capacity to sing, with their own unique voice. I think often times we "get in our own way" and hold ourselves back from truly realizing our potential. I would love to help find your true voice so that you can do anything you want, whether it's singing in the shower or in front of thousands of adoring fans at Carnegie Hall!
*** Studio Equipment *** Practice rooms with upright pianos.
*** Travel Equipment *** If t
here is no piano, we can work from the mp3 player or a cd player and make it work!
*** Specialties *** I specialize in Jazz voice, improvisation (scatting) and Broadway singing. I am also trained in Acting.

My daughters, 8 and 6, took lessons as beginners from Melody for 10 months before we had to move. SHE IS AMAZING! Not only did she make the lessons fun and engaging, but they learned so much in that short time. I grew up playing piano, violin and French horn and I was very impressed with her approach/methodology and how much of herself she put into her teaching. For the last 3 months we were with Melody, the girls also took voice lessons. The highlight of our spring was watching the girls perform at the recital Melody had so painstakingly organized. It was astounding how much they had progressed musically and my husband and I were in awe at how well they performed in front of people. We were also impressed at the wide range of experience in the students Melody taught. Some had played for years and were clearly continuing to blossom under Melody's tutelage, while others were beginners like our daughters. Melody was always positive, encouraging and extremely patient (even when my six year old had clearly not practiced for a week straight or was tired and whiny). My daughters and I miss her dearly as our mentor and now our friend! We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Two of my girls had the great opportunity to begin piano lessons with Ms. Melody. It was just three months but my girls were able to join the Christmas recital which they enjoyed so much! It was unfortunate that we have to move overseas. We highly recommend Ms. Melody. She is a very good teacher.

My son was 6 years old when he started piano lessons with Ms. Melody and he always looked forward to the weekly lessons. For a short period of time, he learned how to read music notes and play songs beautifully. Sadly Ms, Melody has to move. She is fun, engaging, and firm in her teaching. We really appreciate her.
Develop knowledge of chords and music structure. Learn to play from a fake book and make our own arrangements in a variety of styles. Develop our ears through active listening. Develop solid reading through learning pieces and using method books at the appropriate levels. Develop solid technique through scales and technical drills.
In a fun and engaging atmosphere we will develop the tools of musicality. I'm as comfortable with an absolute beginner as an advanced student.
I've been a professional drummer and keyboardist for 17 years. The last 13 of these have been touring with Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus. I've performed on cruise ships, in clubs and bars, and in concert halls.
As a drummer I'm well versed in Jazz, Rock, Latin, Funk, and Orchestral/Band Percussion. We will focus on solid time, technique, and musicality.
On the piano we develop solid fundamentals through reading and technical exercises, a grounding in theory, and an understanding of musical structure. You will learn to play from a fake book, play with a band, and improvise. I will also equip you with the tools to write your own music.
Happy to teach students both drums
and piano. We can do this as a split one hour lesson, or alternate weeks. We will also work on ensemble playing by playing together.
NOTE: I CANNOT PROVIDE IN HOME TEACHING WITHIN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

I have worked with and seen Marie Hinds' work over the past 8 years. Not only has she taught children and adults of all ages, she has fostered an intrinsic love for music which is at the soul of any artists' teaching. I have seen Pre-K students identify the different families of instruments to performing songs in different languages under her guidance. She knows how to meet a child.or an adult at their ability level and challenge them enough to help them advance and learn songs they dreamed of mastering! I highly recommend Marie Hinds as a music teacher of singing, gospel singing, piano and reading music. She is also a highly experienced reading teacher. She incorporates her knowledge of reading foundations to translate to reading and learning music. You will receive a holistic approach to music education under Marie Hinds.

Ms. Marie was awesome. She was very patient and encouraging. My daughter learned so much in her first lesson. I am looking to how she progresses.
Andrew is a gifted teacher who prides himself on making the student feel comfortable, no matter their level of experience or ability. This approach has worked successfully for many of his students, allowing them to be more open and understanding of some of the many concepts introduced and practiced while learning the piano.
Andrew is also very adaptable, understanding that each student is different, responding to unique learning styles and approaches that suits them better than others. But one thing remains the same, and that is the ability to enjoy the work as well as feel clear and measurable progress. This is any student's ultimate goal, and Andrew has a proven track record of success when it comes to learning the instrument.
Andrew will work with you to establish clear goals, if you don't already possess them, and be a steady and comforting guide for you on your journey - no matter how far you intend to go.
Andrew started playing piano at the tender age of 3. His mom wanted him to spend his endless energy on something artistic so she started him on piano lessons. Very early on it was clear Andrew had a natural, unique ability to connect with the piano. He played in school bands throughout grade school and began performing around DC in high school. While Andrew also plays guitar, drums, and bass, the piano has remained his first love and primary instrument.
At seventeen, Andrew left DC and started college at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. Andrew studied Jazz Piano but also led big bands, wrote and arranged music, produced, and engineered recordings. Shifting from Jazz to Rock in his early twenties, Andrew joined the band Ambulance LTD, playing live throughout New York City, the United States, and internat
ionally, as well as on the "LP" and "EP" recordings.
Upon returning to New York from touring, Andrew began assisting younger students at The New York Piano Academy—helping them to develop their playing skills, as well as their composing and arranging pursuits. The experience exposed his innate ability to build students’ talents through patience and encouragement, consistently taking them farther than they thought they could go. Andrew realized his passion for teaching and began working with students of all ages, from 3 year-old children to seniors. As a teacher, Andrew focuses on making learning enjoyable while teaching all types of music—pop, rock, jazz, classical, and even Broadway. Andrew tailors his lesson programs to the uniqueness of each student and teaches them not only how to play, but also how to better hear, enjoy, and love music.
Never thought l could to be able to learn a Bach invention before. Now I’m playing it. Very enthusiastic teacher.

"Julie is a conscientious teacher. She taught several of our children the fundamentals of piano - notes, timing, fingering, etc - and gave them a great fou
ndation for their further development. She is patient and kind, qualities that are very needful for helping beginners. One of the reasons we chose Julie was because we attended church where she was the regular pianist, and we could watch and hear the skills she had to play. We would highly recommend her."
"Astrid was wonderful"
"Jennifer is great! She understands what my goals are and is patient with me as I start to learn the piano again."
