Masters in Music: Vocal Performance from University of Redlands
The main focus of these lessons is to prepare high-school students for higher education. The 50-minute lessons are designed to first help students prepare repertoire for college/university music program auditions (the first 30 minutes of the lesson). Secondly, to prepare students for said programs through 20-minute tutorials tailored to the needs of the student ie. music theory, efficient practice habits, vocal hygiene, music degree exploration, etc.
I am a professional singer and music composition hobbyist. I graduated from the University of Redlands, CA with a Masters in Music, Vocal Performance. During my graduate work, I sang backup to Josh Groban and The Who. I love most genres of music and specialize in classical, musical theater, and sac
The first time I ever saw Jacob was in church as our director. Right from the start, I knew he had professional training in the way he led the congregation. I found myself singing louder and actually trying to follow him! Then, a few weeks after, he stood up during services and sang a solo; my mouth hit the floor! Jacob is seemingly a quiet man so I didn't know what to expect. I mean, I knew how to read music, but could he really sing loud enough for all of us to enjoy! One word: Amazing! After that, I really got to know him in the church choir. Both he and his wife are musically talented and sing beautifully!
My daughter, Tatum, a sophomore in high school, had been singing since she was six -- at home, school, church, and children's theater. She has been in many musicals and loves musicals, but did not have the stamina, nor the expressionism that is really required for stage... and that's what she really wants to do.
As soon as we hired Jacob as Tatum's vocal coach, we had IMMEDIATE results! In her freshman year, Tatum had the confidence and ability to try out for the school play "Hairspray". We were so happy to find out she made it and then even more excited this year when she was chosen as one of four sophomores for her high school choir (that had never been done before)! Recently, she played Sister Margareta in "The Sound of Music" at school. If you know the movie, you know the nuns have very strenuous parts vocally, and Tatum was also known as the "funny" nun so she had to really have confidence in her acting and delivery to get the laughs and while singing -- no less! But the biggest achievement was Tatum being chosen to participate in the All-State High School Choir! This is a five-day conference in which a student has to audition in order to sing with the best of the best in high school. Tatum flew up to San Jose State to attend workshops and sing in the famous Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph. It was magnificent and I know it could not have happened without Jacob's tutelage and encouragement.
We are very proud of Jacob for obtaining his Master's at the University of Redlands. The university is known for its prestigious music program and has many concerts. During that time, as a member of "The Chapel Singers", Jacob sang with "The King's Singers", a famous a cappella group from London ( View on youtube "The King's Singers - Live - Overture to William Tell". After this performance, one member, Bob Chilcott became a faculty member at the university.
As for his ability to teach, he is comfortable letting you observe (as long as his student agrees). My daughter wasn't so keen on the idea, but he had her so involved in her own technique, she forgot I was in the room. I was able to watch her any time I wanted (a teenager letting mom in)! He taught her how to breathe properly and how to hit those hard and high notes that she never thought she would be able to do.
We were -- and are -- so sad Jacob moved away, but we are so proud of him and proud to have had him as Tatum's teacher. I know that whomever has Jacob as a teacher and mentor will be truly pleased with the results in the immediate improvements.
The best part: of all this: You get to hear Jacob sing!

Music lessons should be fun, encouraging and full of music that you love. They are an opportunity to learn something new, show your improvement, and receive correction, encouragement and praise. Students and instructors should play together frequently throughout and the time should be balanced with theory, technique and exercises, sight-reading, and performance and seasoned with introductions to a variety of music and styles. I like to encourage students to play because they love to play and to find the music that is an integral part of their soul, then to share that with others through performance. What do you want to do with or gain from your music? We will work toward your goals.
Music is a huge part of my life and I love sharing that with others. Helping and seeing others discover and develop their talents and find joy in music is something I love. I come from a musical family and have been singing and playing the piano since before I can remember. Flute (and piccolo) l

Life-long ukulele player taught by my own musical family members. I have taught 200+ beginners, representing 15+ countries throughout the world and ranging between 9 to 89 years of age, since 2013. Teaching ukulele to beginners brings me joy because it is a physical connection to my own Hawaiian heritage that I get to share with everyone. Each curriculum will be tailored to the student according to their needs. Part of my lesson plan includes songs that the student would like to learn throughout the course

I grew up in a musical family. My mother was a piano teacher for 20 years, and my father could play any instrument he decided to pick up. From as young as I can remember, music was always surrounding me. I came to love it in all its forms and styles. I began playing piano when I was a little girl.

Her lessons usually start of with a couple of stretches (usually just upper body). This is to help relax your body, jaw, mouth, etc before singing. Then she will do some vocal warms that at first seem pretty basic, and not intense, but they will help you in the long run! Trust me. Then she will practice with you a song you want to try to sing or need help with. As you progress, she will have you work on reading music and other skills. (Course, she is open to working on anything more or less as you need). Once again, your lesson is customized on what YOU need.
I’ve been working with her since July 2018. I know that I have improved on ear training immensely! I am able to pick up melodies much faster than before. I am able to sing more powerful than before which is something I struggle with consistently. She will push you! She will take you out of your comfort and push you to have confidence in yourself. She has a great personality. Kind. Fun. Energetic. Intelligent beyond her years. I’m continuing to take lessons with her until she makes me the next Beyoncé or something.
So I highly recommend her. Book a few lessons with her, attend them, don’t forget to take your water, and a recoding device, be responsible and take it serious because she is taking you serious. After all you’re paying for the lessons. You want to improve. And you will.
I’m looking forward to continue working with her and be stretched more."
Ms. Marie is really good at teaching me how to play the piano. I was a little nervous at my first few lessons, but she made me feel very comfortable. She is always very patient and makes the lessons fun. I really like the pace she goes at. She knows when I am ready for new and more complicated chords, scales or pieces. She is a great teacher. If you want to play the piano, take lessons with her."
Will not hesitate to recommend her."
