I like to teach my students all the fundamentals of guitar such as chords, scales, rhythm, and theory. Along with that, we'll go over how to practice such techniques in a tangible manner catered to what you're interested in. Most importantly, we'll work on the application of what you'll learn towards real life situations. Whether it's for a top 40's gig, writing your next song, or having a jam session with your friends and family, I'll help make it happen!

About Allen
Hello! My name is Allen and I've been playing guitar for 16 years, and teaching for the past 10. I've been performing and writing since the age of 16 with bands in many styles. I'm originally from Santa Maria, CA, and I obtained my knowledge of music theory, performance, and songwriting skills from taking private lessons in the central coast at a place called Coelho's Academy of Music. Our head instructor, Jerry Coelho, was a student of the late Howard Roberts and was one of the first graduating students to who helped to establish Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), currently known as The Musicians Institute. After dedicating 4 years of private lessons under Jerry and his other top instructors, my hard work payed off and I was given the opportunity take students of my own. For the following two years, I've managed to consistently teach
40 students per week. I decided to move forward and take my musical experience with me to San Diego, where I currently teach, write, record, and perform my music with others who have similar goals and aspirations. I love playing in as many bands as possible. The main one I play in is called Quel Bordel. Some of the bands I've played in have given me the opportunity to perform with local and big named artists such as D.J. Artistic, Gary Wilson of Stones Throw Records, The Aristocrats, Terry Bozzio, Alan Holdsworth, and Tony Levin. As a full time musician and performer, I'm typically out gigging anywhere from 2-5 a week. As a teacher, I'm here to help you with where you want to be with guitar. Whether it's rock, pop, funk, hip hop, reggae, jazz, blues, indie, folk, and country, I can help you with the technical and theoretical side of things.

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal- To get you to become better than me. I find myself as an easy going teacher, and can provide that push when I see students getting more engaged in their lessons. I typically teach out of two main books, and it's optional for students to have their own copy of my recommended method books. I emphasize heavy chord vocabulary and steady rhythm. I believe that in order to be a good lead player, you would have to be a great rhythm player. As we develop technique, you can expect me to incorporate theory as to maintain an even share of the HOW's and WHY's. Moreover, expect to DO something with our lessons. Repetition is the mother of learning, and sometimes it comes down to the idea of 'monkey see, monkey do' before we can have in depth conversations about the application of your lessons in real situations. To me, music is very creative. So I'm a big believer on improvisation with both chords and scales. I believe in practical application when learning the songs you want to learn. So every student will have a unique way of learning the fundamentals only necessary to their personal goals.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two small practice amps, cables, method books (personal copies), extra picks, extra guitar, music stand, blank sheet music/tabs for notes, extra strings, music stand, metronome, tuner

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music stand, extra guitar (if needed), blank staff/tab paper, tuner, metronome, battery powered amp, cables, extra strings (if needed), picks

*** Specialties ***
I primarily use Hal Leonard method books for beginners when it comes to reading and basic technique. For those who want to learn at the intermediate/advance level, I use the book called Jazz and Pop Guitar (chords and progressions) and Scales and Modes in the Beginning which can cover all aspects of chord theory and improvisation. I model my curriculum off of my prior lesson plans from my teachers ( based off of Berklee and GIT) My genres specialize in rock, funk, jazz, indie rock, folk, country, blues, pop

My daughter is very shy which is why she won't try new things very often. However, after her first lesson with Allen she was excited. She said he made the lesson very fun and made her very comfortable. She learned her first two chords and is eager to practice transitioning between the chords and is looking forward to her next lesson with Allen.

Thanks so much Jon!

Even though I am only listed as giving hour lessons, I can give shorter lessons. The price for those would be negotiable on an individual basis. I have taught many half hour lessons over the years and I still like 45 minute lessons also. On line is a better choice for the shorter lessons in that I wouldn't be having to deal with the commute. So let me know about your interest, and we can work something out for you. I know you would enjoy the lessons and would get a lot out of them.

About John
My name is John, and I have been a guitar teacher here in Marin County, Ca since 1990. Before that I taught guitar and played gigs in the Kansas City area since 1974. I taught at Mt Tam School in Mill Valley for 10 years 1999 to 2009, and I taught part time at Branson HS in Ross Ca from 2006 to 2017. I am a patient, fun teacher and I teach everyone from beginner to semi pro. I can teach you to read, and to improvise over songs, and my specialty is chord, scale relationships, and chord building. I travel to you if you live in Marin or southern Sonoma County. My fees are reasonable and are figured on distance from me to you. I also teach over the internet which I have done with numerous students over the years.
I'd like to say a few words about my early lessons with you. If you are a beginner, we will start by becoming comfortable with th
e guitar, and explaining how it works, i.e. how to hold the guitar, how to hold the pick, some strumming tips, and explaining a bit about how the musical alphabet works, and any questions you have will be answered. If you've played before I will ask you some questions about what direction you want to take, and if you can, I will hear you play. If you are shy don't worry about that, you won't need to play for me. We will learn to find all notes on the guitar neck quickly, and will make sure your technique is proper. If you desire to learn to read music, I will also introduce that subject to you. Some other early lesson topics will include some picking exercises, and technique related issues. The lessons are geared for you, so you can let me know what you want to work on. Thank you and looking forward to our first lesson.

I tailor my lessons to meet student goals. I help students learn basic chords and strumming patterns, learn to sing while playing, understand how to read notes, tabs and chord charts, understand power chords and basic music theory, play popular songs of the past or present, learn basic scales and improvisation skills, and even write their own songs! You can search my music on Spotify or iTunes for a sample of my style. My album is called "Songs from Pablo's Attic."

About Peter
I love sharing knowledge! Math has always been a passion for me, and I competed in several math competitions even in elementary school. Since then I have tutored many students in math from a fourth grade level to college math. I scored a 34 on the ACT and I enjoy helping others achieve their dreams by getting college scholarships. I lived in Italy for more than 2 years and have worked as an Italian teacher and tutor for 5 years. I have been playing guitar and making music for 19 years. You can check out my CD, "Songs from Pablo's Attic," on Spotify and iTunes. Peter is an excellent one-on-one teacher for Italian. Based on his background, I'm not surprised to find him very knowledgable about the language as it is currently spoken. In our sessions, he often explains the nuances of words and phrases based on usage, is careful to guide correct pronunciation and adds in multiple phrases of common speech. He has assembled a workbook that is well-organized and clear; we have progressed through it week by week and it has a nice feel of building a usable knowledge of key verbs, words and phrases. Peter is great at teaching and sharing what he knows, and on top of all of this he is flexible to the student's pace, needs and interests. We paused in our progress through the workbook to focus on specific topics like directions, clothing, colors, food, the urban setting, etc. Weekly he sends me sentences via a Google doc and I work and them and send my translations into Italian back--works great! I am excited to have Peter as my teacher and I think you will be, too. I plan on working with him through the course and beyond. Grazie mille, Peter!

I’ve been learning and teaching guitar for 4 years. I want to be able to have my full attention on my students, knowing what they want to learn and far they want to get. Giving my students lessons and teaching them songs that they would like to learn. I can teach in and English and Spanish. So message me and we’ll see what we our music curriculum can reach.

About Javier
I am a teacher, a student, and a human that loves with a passion of playing guitar. I want to teach and learn from students. I went to Santa Barbara San Marcos High School and I was in band and the president of the guitar club of that school. I got to be one on one with those students and I was taught how to deal with some of those minor problems that guitarist have at the beginning. I will be attending Berkeley City College Online Degree

As a teacher I want to teach all that I know, I want my students to be better than me. That’s my goal. I can teach in English and Spanish as well for songs in those languages. I love to see people improve from knowing nothing from them to knowing a full song. If you put your heart and desire into it, you can achieve more than you think. My goal is for my students to know and perform outstandingly bett
er than I do.

As a student I had a lot of troubles at first. I didn’t have a teacher at first so I wasn’t sure of what to do. I started teaching myself and performing well and over a while it starting to pay off. In guitar club we had it once a week. Now it’s twice a week since I became president. I started to learn that I need to teach those students so that they don’t go through that frustration that I went through. As students, they have been teaching me as well and surprise me with what they have learn and trying to learn and I know that you as my student will do the same.

I’m human and we are all human. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone has problems. Always message me if you have problem while it may be the guitar or anything else just message me and let me know to see if I can help.

I want to see you all evolve and eventually grow into someone much bigger as a person and as a musician.
