Private Clarinet Teacher

I have been a saxophonist for 11 years, currently studying as a saxophone student majoring in Music Education & Composition at Kansas State University. I also have been playing the clarinet for one year now. As a saxophonist and as a Music Education student, I have had the opportunities to study the clarinet as well as play in multiple ensembles.

Lessons for clarinet will consist of three main areas:

Technical Work:

No one wants to hear it, but this means scales and patterns! Learning all of the major and minor scales is a great start to learning new music, and will be the first goal for my students. Included in technical work is proper cleaning and care for the instrument, proper breathing, and physical habits such as posture.

Repertoire:

I want you to experience music that is capable of your skill level, exciting, and will help you learn about different styles and history. I want you to find music that you love to play! Along with learning to play new music, you ...

I am writing in support of Mark Levenson. I have known Mark for over ten years. In this time I have been lucky to work with him on several projects. Mark is a very fine musician and a great person. 'For the past several years he has been Principal Alto and Saxophone Section Leader for the Sarasota Concert Band. This is a semi-professional Symphonic Band that I conduct. His playing is at an artist level and his commitment to the ensemble is exceptional. When needed to help out, Mark will gladly switch to play soprano, tenor or baritone saxophone for the good of the group. And he plays these equally well. Also, about once a year, Mark would take the baton and guest conduct with great ease and artistry. Mark also worked for the Board of Directors of the SCB. In this capacity he was very helpful in many aspects of keeping the band running smoothly. Raising money, suggesting music, publicity, concert and rehearsal logistics and more are all elements Mark was always willing to help with. His previous experience as a high school band director makes him able to understand and have expertise in all areas of band affairs. He is always willing to help with a positive attitude. His experience in Human Resources also helped in matters of personnel and logistics.

Another way I have been involved with Mark is through his teaching. The SCB has a commitment to fostering music education in our area. Mark has served as a teacher and mentor to many high school band students in our area. We run an Honor Band, a Summer Music Camp and regular playing opportunities for middle and high school students. Mark's hard work and high level of knowledge has always helped our groups..

Mark is also a very fine musical instrument repairman. He does a great job repairing both woodwind and brass instruments. For the past decade or so he has been my main repairman for my clarinets and saxophones that I play professionally.

When Mark and his family decided to leave our area, it was a big loss for us. Besides myself, many other music teachers, performers and students miss the influence of Mark. I know that Mark will continue his high standards and exceptional commitment where ever he is. Our loss is your gain. I enthusiastically recommend Mark Levenson to you.

Mark is a very clear and learned instrumentalist, my instrument of choice is the Saxophone. His approach is very relaxing and direct, Mark is very complimentary towards the things I did correctly which is a real plus for a student like myself.

I know his knowledge base is deep and look forward to actually picking up something new and redirecting bad habits. Tone, Breathing, relaxing, improving the embouchure enjoy what your doing was his focus on the first visit. 1st lesson five stars...

I'll get right to the point. Paul's personality made it extremely easy for me not only to be comfortable but to feel really appreciated. I was fearful that Paul may feel like, "oh great another person who THINKS he has something but can't sing a lick!" I experienced the exact opposite. Within 15 minutes he located what has been my most frustrating issue. I felt like I was already ahead of the game and we hadn't even started yet! Paul has the rare balance of a sense of humor and still following an agenda to meet my goal. Thanks to Paul I really feel like I can, and WILL reach all my goals. AND enjoy the journey to them!! Can't wait for the next lesson!

My daughter enjoyed learning clarinet with Tyler. As another reviewer has noted, Tyler is a gentle and patient teacher. My daughter could be difficult during lessons and often got distracted, and Tyler was great at steering her back on track and engaging her through new music and exercises.

Tyler was the piano teacher for our two daughters for almost 5 years. They were piano beginners aged 4 and 6 when we started. My daughters are more on the shy side, and Tyler ended up being the perfect teacher for them. He is gentle and patient but at the same time got them excited about learning the instrument and playing music of different genres. My daughters enjoyed the lessons very much and they were sad to see Tyler leave for New York. I can highly recommend Tyler as a teacher especially for shy beginners like my daughters were.

"I hired Stephanie to work with me at Lynn Middle School as a woodwind technician for one semester, Spring 2012. Stephanie was always punctual, organized, and outstanding with the kids. She immediately set up a fun and safe environment for them to learn. Her work was excellent. We were preparing for our district Music Performance Assessment Festival and received Superior ratings. I have no doubt we owe part of that rating to her hard work. She really goes above and beyond, on one occasion I had to miss my afternoon classes for jury duty and she ran rehearsal without any problems. I wish we still had Stephanie in our district. I highly recommend her."

"Mr. Rappaport was my clarinet professor and mentor in college and has continued to be an inspiration to me both as a teacher and as one of the finest clarinetist I know, both in the classical realm and in the jazz and swing styles.

Anyone who has ever heard me play has always complimented me on my clarinet tone. I can honestly say that my clarinet tone is the direct result of Mr. Rappaport's methods and his gentle but very stringent guidelines. If you are looking for someone to take you or your child to the highest standard of musicianship, look no further. I highly recommend lessons with Mr. Rappaport. Kim C."

"I've been taking lessons with Michael for over a year now, and it is definitely a highlight of my week! Michael was curious as to why I wanted to play the clarinet and has subsequently brought me books with Klezmer, Classical Duets, Jazz and Tango music. I had taken classical lessons for many years, but I can honestly say that I progressed so much more with Michael. He is fun to work with, and always finds the places where I have progressed. He is very skilled at finding new challenges to explore and does so in a most supportive way. Can't recommend him highly enough!"
