I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Yale school of Music with master degree of cello performance in 2021. I have performed in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Vienna Konzerthaus, Suntory Hall in Japan, and the National Concert Hall in Taiwan, I also worked with prestigious conductors including Carolyn Kuan from Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Valery Gergiev, Jean-Marie Zeitouni, Takacs Nagy from Verbier music festival, Peter Oundjian from Toronto Symphony, David Robertson, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, Marin Alsop.

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 6 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students since then. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion ...

I love sharing my passion for music with all of my students - ages 5 through 72.

You can always recognize a skilled cellist. The music sounds smooth and graceful, the tone quality is lovely. Unskilled cellists just don’t sound the same. What’s the difference? Skill of course. The skill to play a very large instrument with relaxed hands and arms by using your core muscles to transfer your body weight through your arms and hands into the cello. Not every cello teacher knows how to teach that.

I believe that my unique combined musical and medical background makes me a better cello teacher. In addition to my graduate and undergraduate musical training and extensive musical experience, My knowledge of human anatomy and mechanics of how the body works can help you develop habits that will lead to the beautiful singing tone that’s makes the cello a favorite.

We will then build on those habits to develop good intonation, a lovely vibrato and a variety of bowing techniques ...

About JoAnn

Your lessons are designed to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to successfully perform in public. I work hard to prepare your lessons and I ask my students to invest daily time working on skills studied at their lessons. Performing music requires the patient integration of multi

She is amazingly patient with me, a newbie, even though she is brilliant! and I am not!!! During this pandemic, she is teaching me outdoors in her lovely garden, practicing social distancing to reduce the risk of virus transfer. I am more than pleased and looking forward to learning much more from her !

My name Zoe. I am a classical trained cellist and musician and I love teaching, especially kids who are just starting or have been playing for a while! My goal is to let my students enjoy playing and know how to appreciate classical music even if they ended up not pursuing music as a career. Music comes in different forms, I like having my students chose whatever piece of music that they would like to play on the cello, and I will do my best to help them to achieve their goal. A lot of musicians grew up practicing alone so as a professional string quartet players, I would very much like to have my students to work with each other and enhance their communication skill from day one! I think being able to listen is a skill that can be used in every other field as well, and I firmly believe that playing chamber music will be a great way to increase sensibility of listening.

About Zoe

Hi! My name is Zoe, I am a classical trained musician. I am in a professional string quartet and we are currently in residence in multiple cites in Europe. I have been touring with my colleagues in the past few years and I loved it! But as I am playing and learning so much from my great mentors, I r

I am coming to the cello as a brand new beginner. I have play around with some fretted instruments, ukulele, banjo, etc. But Irina was super at getting me relaxed, focused on basics and encouraging me with small, but important mechanics and technical details. I have taken other music lessons like sax, so could compare. I totally enjoyed the start of my cello training.
Oh, btw, I'm retired and over 65!!!

What is a Yamaha Cello? A Detailed Look for Cello Students

Who made your cello? Who carved the body, stained, varnished, and assembled the instrument, including the label visible through the f-hole which bears their signature? Many musicians consider the maker of their instrument, or luthier, a point of pride. There are famous luthiers, like Stradivari and Guarneri, whose names are synonymous with masterpieces of craftsmanship. These masters innovated many of the standards for modern stringed instruments, and so many luthiers might include on the la …

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
