Piano with Joseph L.

Born and raised in northern New Jersey, I have played the piano since age 8 and performed since age 12. Throughout high school, I began developing my voice as a pianist and composer. I participated in the Terra Magica music festival in Croatia and worked with several internationally renowned teachers who influenced me to pursue a career in music. At William Paterson University, I studied piano with Aaron Wunsch (a graduate and current teacher at the Juilliard School), composition with John Link (a graduate of the City University of New York), and music analysis and ear training with Jeffrey Kresky (graduate of Colombia and Princeton music schools). During my undergrad, I participated in the Juilliard music program in Gijon, Spain where I performed and worked with some of the most renowned piano teachers in the world. I also began teaching private lessons with students who aspire to pursue music in higher education. After receiving my degree, I formed an ensemble, continued performing in the greater New York area, and developed a large student base as a teacher. Aside from being a private instructor, I currently teach at Art In Motion Inc., an organization for students who have limited access to music and the arts, and at the School of Rock in Tenafly, NJ. *** Lesson Details *** I am a relaxed and experienced teacher who loves to get to know students and parents. I believe music has the ability to enrich all areas of our lives, especially for those just beginning to explore different avenues of learning. Though I am classically trained, I also teach popular music styles. For beginners, I develop a strong foundational knowledge of music and the piano. I incorporate fundamental aspects of music theory, piano technique, and performance into every lesson. I especially focus on fostering a genuine love of music within the student so that they stick with it and enjoy themselves. For intermediate - advanced students, I delve into deeper aspects of music theory, piano technique, performance, and piano literature. I particularly focus on the student's musicality and address music history as it applies to the literature. I advocate performance opportunities as much as possible, and work with the student and parents to find appropriate venues for performance in the area. I look forward to hearing from you and starting our lessons together! *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide an electronic weighted keyboard if the student does not have a piano/keyboard available.
