Some of my earliest recollections involve me tinkering on an old upright piano at my grandparent's house in Albuquerque, NM. My parents signed me up for piano lessons in 1997. After a few years of basic training, I began to study classically under Juilliard graduate, Tonja Voorhees until 2008, when she retired. Throughout the years I have continued my training, studying under different jazz, blues, and theory teachers. I have completed several Berklee College of Music courses online through Coursera. After graduating from high school, I began giving private lessons to students ranging from about 5 - 16 years old. When I moved from Albuquerque in 2013, I was teaching about 25 students at a Children's Music School. Since moving to Nashville, I have continued my career as a full time music teacher, teaching both from a music Academy in Franklin, as well as teaching lessons in people's homes. Coming from a musical family, my siblings and I played together often growing up, and frequently led worship at our family's church. We began recording songs we had written together, and in 2008 began to tour after getting signed to a record label based in Seattle. Since then, I have had the opportunity to tour the country, and was even asked to play at a festival in Germany called "Rock without Limits." We've played with artists such as Switchfoot, NEEDTOBREATHE, and For King & Country. Since 2008, my siblings and I have released 4 albums, and make our living as full time musicians. *** Lesson Details *** Students of mine should always expect a fun, creative, and full lesson that is specifically tailored to fit the students needs and learning style. I work great with kids, and I have plenty of experience with students even as young as 5 or 6 years old! I am patient and kind, but I insist that my students work hard and stay positive. I begin lessons by asking if the student practiced, and then ask how their practice went. I always make sure that the curriculum is understood before moving ahead, and I will work hard to form good habits such as proper technique, counting aloud, and sight reading. More than anything though, I desire to inspire a LOVE for music and piano in my students. I want them to enjoy their lessons and enjoy learning music. I'm so grateful for the teachers who helped me grow into the musician I am today, and I'm incredibly passionate about passing on my knowledge and passion for music to the next generation of artists and world changers. *** Studio Equipment *** Upright Mason & Hamlin Piano in my home. Seating for parents in living room. *** Travel Equipment *** I don't bring equipment with me beyond writing material & stickers. Student should have a piano or full size keyboard as well as their music books. *** Specialties *** Sight reading, classical technique, theory, chords, ear training.

Shealeen is the best! We have been with her for 4 years now, and my daughter's love of piano and skill level have really grown. It's the highlight of her week to learn from Shealeen, who is not only a gifted teacher, but an incredible person as well. If there were more than 5 stars, we would give them all to her!
