Ukulele with Z T.

I LOVE music. I started playing piano when I was younger, but I didn't like it because I felt like mum was making me practice and play--so I quit. A few years later, I found a dusty box sitting on the top shelf and found a beautiful ukulele. It turned out that dad had bought it over a decade ago during a trip to Hawaii and he hadn't played it much since. I was hooked from my first strum. It's been six years since and I still can't put down my ukulele! I've participated in competitions, taught in music schools and even met my biggest idol: Jake Shimabukuro. I sympathize a lot with people who desperately want to play music, but don't know how to start. I had no clue where to begin when I started! Along my musical journey, I also picked up beatboxing. That was arguably even harder than learning the ukulele, because so few people knew how to do it. But I kept going, and navigated my way through hundreds of online videos and tutorials. I was obsessed. By my senior year in high school, I auditioned and was selected to the number one acapella group in my school as the beatboxer. I'm currently a beatboxer for an acapella group in university! Everything I know about ukuleles and beatboxing comes from the internet and online tutorials. I'm a huge fan of self-motivated learning, but at the same time, it would have been such an amazing resource if I had someone to guide me along. I don't have a degree in music or anything, and I've never taken a music class in my life! I just know when I hear something good and know how to communicate that well to people who feel intimidated by scales, theory and chords. I don't take anything too seriously, but I am seriously in love with music.
