Hi. I'm David.
As a guitarist, composer, arranger and teacher, I offer students opportunities to discover their talents and expand their musical horizons.
I would like to see in them increased skill in playing and appreciation of music in general and the guitar in particular.
Discovering their love of the guitar is meaningful to me: they can pursue a career in music, they can study guitar in various settings and they can play their favorite songs. I want to take them from having a mild interest in guitar to the passion that I have personally and professionally.
Thinking of my students as future successful musicians, I share techniques, current music styles, and professional tips, so they will enjoy playing the guitar and grow week by week.
After 3-6 months, students will go from appreciating guitar and guitar music to having skills in performance and a greater appreciation of the guitar.
*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a laid-back person. I do concentrate on technique, styles and theory. I believe that it is not only important to know how to play well in a certain style, but to know what we're playing; i.e., what notes and chords we're playing. Scales, chords, progressions and stylistic aspects are always important to being a good player.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons will occur in the living room. I have electric guitars. Amplifiers and cords will be provided. Parking is available in the driveway or next to the street.
*** Travel Equipment ***
The student will need to provide their own guitar, method books, picks and any other books/handouts that we may be learning from.
*** Specialties ***
I use the Hal Leonard Guitar Method 1-3 teaching books for the students who want to learn to read music. (Most do.) In addition, I teach according to what the student likes and wants to learn. I start with where they are and adjust according to how well they learn and what they want to learn.
