I have been teaching for over 10 years and my unique versatility as an educator has given me the experience I need to be successful. I am an Orff-Schulwerk trained teacher, whose philosophy is based on things children like to do: sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance, and keep a beat on anything near at hand in a non-competitive atmosphere where one of the rewards is the pleasure of making good music with others. I have an outstanding rapport with children in the classroom and in one-on-one instruction. I am also a leader and a performer whether I am conducting songs at the all-school assemblies, singing in the community choir, or playing rock music in a club. In addition to the many creative projects outside of work, I am an active board member of my local Orff-Schulwerk chapter which promotes a network of music educators.
*** Lesson Details ***
I am more of a laid back teacher who likes to set realistic goals with my students. For example, performing songs for others is a great way to motivate learning music and can be fun for friends and family. I like to use the Nancy and Randall Faber series Piano Adventures for elementary aged children; I prefer the FJH series for guitar. Some of the things I hope my students take away from lessons are better technique, literacy and musicality.
*** Studio Equipment ***
electronic clavanova keyboard, seating for parents
*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect my student to provide their own instrument and purchase their own books.
*** Specialties ***
The styles that work well for me are pop, classical and jazz, as well as R & B, funk and soul.

Having a lot of fun
My seventeen year-old daughter has been taking voice lessons with Stephanie for over a year. Stephanie has helped her broaden her musical interests and has encouraged her to try new things; Stephanie also listens to what my daughter wants to do and is willing to work with her on music from local Twin Cities artists.
My daughter's confidence in her singing has gone up tremendously. My daughter and I both look forward to her voice lesson every week.
Excellent piano teacher
Stephanie has been teaching my 9 year old son piano for about 2 years. She is enthusiastic about music which make my son loves learning from her! She makes the class really fun for him. He looks forward for the piano class every week.
Thanks again, Stephanie. You are a great music teacher!
Fun, Smart, Creative, Kind, and All Around Awesome
Stephanie has a wonderful ability to balance light-hearted humor and kid-friendly goofiness with effective instruction and inspiration. Our son has taken lessons with her for just 6 months, but his ability has shot up. His love and enjoyment of piano are directly related to her superior skills.
Stephanie teaches guitar to my 9-year-old son and piano to my 7-year-old daughter. Both of my kids look forward to their lessons all week! Stephanie is fantastic with children, and knows how to keep their interest and motivate them to want to learn more. She is always on time, very professional and disciplined, and my kids just love working with her!
In touch and in tune with students
Stephanie brings out the best in her students and taps into their potential. She knows where to begin the instruction based on the temperment and the ability of the student. For younger students, she adds a few popular songs in the repertoire to help keep the student's interest. My daughter always has looked forward to her lessons with Stephanie, which is a huge compliment!
Doing a great job with our daughter
Stephanie began with our 10 year old daughter a month ago, and is doing a wonderful job. We are thrilled with her approach, and so is our daughter. Bravo!
she is very nice and keeps your confidence up very well she knows what you need and how you need it
I like her very much and wish to see her on the future
