Doctorate of Music Composition & Theory

    About Spencer A.

I am a composer and improviser with a masters degree from New York University, and will be starting a Doctorate in Music Composition and Theory from Michigan State University in the fall of 2018 where I will be teaching theory. I am an active composer who frequently composes music for various artists throughout the country. I have worked with artists throughout various musical spectrums including film, video games, and classical, but specialize in new music. I have a passion for teaching, and take a very active role in my students development. It is my goal that I help a student develop their voice, as well as focus on technique, notation, and orchestration. I teach primarily online, but am open to an in person lessons when appropriate. I have worked with quite a few major ensembles including the JACK Quartet, PRISM Saxophone Quartet, The Rogue Trio, The Lotus Trio, The New Thread Quartet, among others. I have also won various awards, including an ASCAP Plus award, and the abundant silence composition competition.
