About Rick H.

I'm Rick and I have been playing guitar for several decades. I specialize in all acoustic styles, including artists like James Taylor, Paul Simon and other "folk rockers" country, and rock. Whether you just want to play some of your favorites, or learn to accompany yourself as you sing, I'm your guy. Strumming, finger-picking and just enough music theory to get you to understand what you're playing...and grow!
Do you need to dig deeper into Music Theory? I'm a Magna Cum Laude graduate with a Masters Degree in Theory, so if you need some beginning or advanced level tutoring in this subject, give me a call.

I like to keep a relaxed focus during my lessons. I teach by example, based on actually playing the real songs that YOU want to learn to play. I'll look for ways to help you reach your goals, and teach you a little bit about the theory behind it all so you can understand and grow on your own. Just bring your acoustic guitar, some determination and a sense of humor and we're on our way!

Professional, knowledgeable, patient, encouraging.
My son (10 years old) started taking lessons with Rick a couple months ago, and we couldn't be more pleased with him as an instructor. He is very knowledgeable and professional, and he is extremely patient and encouraging, which is a requirement for any instructor, but especially when working with young kids.
Rick is a very effective communicator, and we brainstorm to find the most meaningful songs and methods for teaching my son, who has A.D.D. and can have focus difficulties. It's an added challenge that Rick is handling very well.
Rick is extremely accommodating and flexible, too. He really goes out of his way to make the learning experience a positive one for his students.
I highly recommend him for anyone seeking to learn guitar or music theory. He's a wonderful instructor.
