Hello! My name is Raven. I am 23 years old and a recent graduate from Rutgers University. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a Minor in Studio Art. My pronouns are they/them/she/her. I started taking drawing and painting lessons when I was six years old. I have had 17 years of professional training either through private lessons or college classes. I have worked as a studio assistant for a world-renowned professional artist and I sell commissioned portraits. My training largely consists of realism techniques in graphite (pencil), charcoal, acrylic paint, oil paint, and chalk pastel. I have also personally explored, through my own creative process, abstract and Surrealist styles in multiple mediums including pen & ink, watercolor, and mixed media. I believe in learning the rules in order to break them. There are really no "rules" when it comes to art. However, having a foundation of basic techniques can set the stage for an expanded creative process. I can teach basic techniques of drawing and painting as well as providing tools and techniques on how to tap into your creative imagination and create something meaningful and eye-catching. I believe anyone and everyone has the potential to be an artist. I don't believe in the phrase, "I can't draw." I don't believe in perfectionism. If you work with me, I will help you to work with your natural strengths and learning styles to achieve your full potential. I don't tolerate discrimination of any kind. I am happy to work with anyone of any race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and disability. LGBTQIA+ folks are more than welcome here. I am understanding and accommodating of neurodiverse folks. I am dedicated to creating a safe and comfortable learning environment. Looking forward to working with you!
