My greatest passions are music and teaching . . . so teaching music is heaven for me! It’s my greatest joy to create a fun and creative environment so my students not only learn, but flourish! Learning and performing music is fun and rewarding. Learning how to be excellent at it should be fun and rewarding too! I've been teaching voice, music and performance to people of all ages for over 14 years. As a singer I specialize in Pop, Country, R&B, Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Rock, Classical and Musical Theater. As a teacher, I teach and perform all styles comfortably . . . except Rap . . . I'm not very good at rap . . . I can write rap, but don’t ask me to perform it for you. . . unless you're looking for comedy entertainment. ;) I was born with a natural ear for music and a love for singing and was placed in private piano and vocal lessons at age 7. From age 10 to present I have been a member of various singing groups: Concert Choir, Vocal Jazz, Chamber Singers, Church Choirs, Show Choirs, Pop, Country, R&B, Rock and Gospel Groups, special ensembles and hired caroling groups. Another interesting aspect of being a singer is the private and public performance opportunities. Since 1985, I've had the privilege to be hired as a Professional/Paid Vocalist, singing at Weddings, Funerals, Conferences, and other Special Events. I've also been privileged to be able contribute my vocals to multiple independent recording projects. All of these experiences have blended together to help me teach from varying perspectives and approaches so that the technique and result is customized to each student’s needs. *** Lesson Details *** I specialize in training all genres for solo and group vocals. I teach ear training for the new beginner, refined technique for the more advanced; incorporating performance and confidence techniques. I’m a practical, laid-back, and warm person who appreciates the differences in our learning styles and interests. However, I understand the importance of hard-work and structure so there will be a healthy balance of both! The most important part of our lessons will be our first day. I begin by learning about YOU! At our first meeting, I want to learn what interests you, what you’re doing now, what you hope to be doing someday and then use that existing interest, coupled with published teaching materials (when appropriate and available), to help you learn what you need to learn to get where you want to be. With consistency in attendance and practice, you will be amazed at your progress in 3 months time and beyond. I own a portable 88-key piano and all relevant equipment if needed. *** Specialties *** I specialize in training all genres for solo and group vocals. I teach basic theory and ear training for the new beginner, refined technique for the more advanced incorporating performance and confidence techniques. As a singer I specialize in Pop, Country, R&B, Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Rock, Classical and Musical Theater - I teach all styles. I also teach Sight-singing for those who are qualified and interested.
