I teach the various styles for the guitar and we will make a lesson plan based on your musical goals and tastes. For most styles you will learn theory but I teach it in a way that is easy to understand and very practical and you will be able to apply what you learn right away. I have extensive performance and teaching experience in the following styles: Rock, Jazz, Blues, Fingerstyle and Classical.

About Michael S.

Music inspires me and has brought so much to my life. I love to share that passion with my students and inspire them to kindle their own musical fire. I have extensive knowledge and performance experience but my ability to inspire students is my greatest asset. If you are starting out, we'll make it fun and productive and you'll be playing songs in no time. If you are an experienced player, we can find where you want to improve and I'll help get you to another level as a player.

I have 20+ years of teaching experience and as a performer I have toured the USA, Europe, Africa and Latin America with notable performances at the Kennedy Center, the Mexico City World Music Festival, Festival Cervantino and the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival. I have released 3 Cds of my own music over the last decade.

Other credentials:
BA Music Elmhurst College 1987, awarded "Chicago's Hottest Guitarist" 1989, Top 5 international finalist in Yamaha's "Six String Theory" Competition Blues Division 2011.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a variety of guitars, both electric and acoustic and several amplifiers for the electrics as well as a variety of pedals and rack effects. My studio also has a digital audio workstation to record and play back music during lessons

*** Specialties ***
I love all kinds of music and teach rock, blues, jazz, folk, fingerstyle and Classical. If I have to pick a "specialty", I feel that I have a special knack for teaching in the zone where rock, jazz and blues all converge.

Michael is a great teacher. I got my dad some guitar lessons and Michael has been amazing. 10 Thumbs up and 12 stars if I could! Really knows how to make things understandable and really takes him time with his students. I would recommend him for whatever you need when it comes to guitar!
