I've been teaching professionally for over ten years and have taught over 200 students of all ages and backgrounds how to play. I've played mostly in rock bands but have also done Classical, Jazz, and Country projects. I play a wide selection of styles including Rock, Pop, Country, Ragtime, Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Metal, Church, Renaissance, Punk, and Funk/Soul. (Everything from Bach to Rock to Bachrach). I graduated from the University of Maryland and Excelsior College.

I listen closely to the student's wants and together we develop the approach that will help them reach their goals. I use a wide variety of methods from strict classical methods (such as Noad or Parkening) to simply teaching chords and "tabbing out" their favorite songs. However, I do make sure the student understands underlying theory and becomes a musician not a parrot. Each student has different strengths and weaknesses (cognitive and physical) and different amounts of time to practice. I take all of these into account in developing your individual lesson plan.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate studio room, hundreds of music books, 3 chairs, guitars, amps, and bass, keyboard and piano
*** Travel Equipment ***
Students should have own instrument and amp. I bring books and handouts.
*** Specialties ***
Guitar and Bass: Beg. to Advanced
banjo and piano: Beg. - intermediate
All Styles (except Flamenco) to include Folk, Acoustic Fingerstyle, Rock, Punk, Blues, Country, Church, Bluegrass, Soul, Ragtime and Classical.

Martin was very gentle in mood and helpful. He didn't waste time and I felt comfortable talking with him immediately. He wasn't at all intimidating and that helped me feel comfortable making noise and telling him about myself. He focused entirely on me. Perfect manner. The HW he gave me was not overbearing and makes perfect sense in retrospect. He gave me confidence that I could achieve my goals much sooner than I expect. I'm hoping I can stick with him. He knows my technique is good, which it is, and I look forward to working with him. Just after getting back home, I really feel like practicing.

Great instructor overall
Marty was a great instructor to me. Taught me a lot in the 4 lessons I had with him. Very professional and knowledgable in Bass. Unfortunately because my schedule changing I could not keep him as an instructor. My only gripe would be that his studio room gets a little cramped and my guitar sometimes would hit things. Other than that. I would definitely recommend him.
