About James M.

James M. is a Classical Guitarist currently residing in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to a wealth of teaching and performing experience James has studied with world renowned performers such as: Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, Marcin Dylla, Zoran Dukic, Florian Larousse, Carlos Perez, Jason Vieaux, Lily Afshar, William Kanengiser, and Pavel Steidel. James holds a B.M. of Performance from Eastern Kentucky University and completed his Masters of Music at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. James began his concert career in 2013 and since has given concerts in Ohio and Kentucky. Most recently he has given solo concerts at Eastern Kentucky University, Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, and the Cincinnati Art Museum’s ‘Something Different’ Series. In the fall of 2013 James was chosen among other international students to take part in the Incontri Chitarristici di Gargnano with Oscar Ghiglia and Elena Papandreou. With the turn of the new year he has been in the process of recording his first professional album and arranging concerts for the 2014 season. *** Lesson Details *** I design lessons to give students the tools that they need to reach their individual music goals, no matter what those might be. In addition to this, I also supplement any student's learning to provide them with the resources and understanding to pursue musical avenues which they did not know they were capable of. When a student achieves their goals and is still as curious as before they began studying I feel I've done my job. I teach all styles. While my masters degree is in classical guitar performance, my undergraduate was in electric and classical guitar performance. I've spent many years in jazz bands, ensembles, and giving solo performances. Lastly, I wholeheartedly believe that anyone has within them the ability to play music. Over the years I've found that people simply learn differently and this is one of the reasons I enjoy my job. It's very interesting for my to find ways to help others understand the very thing that brings me such joy, music. *** Studio Equipment *** Home Studio *** Travel Equipment *** All students will need a guitar, tuner, and notebook. *** Specialties *** Classical, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Folk, etc. I've played and taught most genres. I choose methods specifically suited to each student's needs and goals.
