    About Grace J.

Hello, and thanks so much for taking a minute to look at my profile! My name is Ms. Grace. I graduated with both my bachelor and master degrees in music performance from the University of South Florida. I currently teach strings from my outdoor home studio, and over zoom. I waswas formerly the Suzuki Cello instructor at the Patel Conservatory in Tampa FL, and received my ECC Suzuki Training at the Patel Conservatory. I have taught numerous string classes, and general music classes in the public school system, as well as teaching privately for almost 20 years. I am a dedicated and passionate teacher. I believe that playing a musical instrument (especially a stringed instrument) is one of the most difficult and brain taxing things that a person can do. Because of that, I believe that the methods strategies and disciplines I teach to play various instruments can be used toward learning anything, including: How to study any subject more effectively How to memorize information efficiently How to ease performance (test) anxiety Hand-eye coordination Better multitasking Playing a musical instrument makes every part of your brain work simultaneously. Just think of all the things you have to do at once! Listening, watching, simple mathematics and coordination, all at the same time. It is the most complete workout that anyone can give their brain! My philosophy of teaching is simple: if you can make it fun, interesting, and rewarding, then students want to learn. Then, instilling a desire for discipline is much easier, and more effective. I also don't believe that there are some that "just can't". Levels of ability may differ, but each person has the ability, and it is my job to help them grow that ability to it's fullest potential in a way that is fulfilling for them. When I have interested students, I have a weekly group class, which encourages self confidence through performance, as well as good listening skills. I have 2 recitals per year for my private students, where they get to inspire, and be inspired by their "music lesson colleagues". I try to make it rewarding. Music is beautiful, it is an art. If you can create it, then you are doing something truly beautiful, and truly human. It doesn't get too much better than that.
