*SPECIALTY/EXPERTISE WORKING WITH HIGHLY GIFTED, NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS* Born in Sri Lanka, Erandi’s journey in music began at the age of 4 when her aunt gave Erandi her first lesson. With a direct pianistic lineage dating back to Franz Liszt, her natural gift for music was instantly obvious and it did not take long before Erandi began developing her superb technique under the guidance of virtuoso musician, Dawn Owen, and concert pianist, Beulah Ambrose. With a distinct visual flair, the dazzling young pianist has perfected a riveting, deeply emotional style that showcases her effortless power, speed, precision, and lyricism which have earned Erandi a decade-long reign of winning national titles. At the age of 10, she made her debut public performance, and competed in her first accordion orchestra under the direction of Pamela Hacker. She later performed and nationally competed with the Martin Music Center Orchestra. When Erandi was 13 years old, she began teaching pianoforte performance, accordion, clarinet, and music theory to children and adults alike. At 16, Erandi was invited to be an adjudicator of music festivals and competitions. By the age of 17, she was the youngest joint virtuoso title winner on both the accordion and piano in AFNA’s 50 year history. By the age of 23, Erandi established her first music school where she distilled the essence of her pedagogy and musicianship in ways that were applied to create powerful movements in music. She has performed and competed in orchestras as well as performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Television (WB Network), and at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Her students have gone on to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, the Colburn Music Academy, the CalArts Summer Music Program, Academy of Music at Hamilton High School, Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Oberlin College's Conservatory of Music, and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Students have the option of performing in two yearly recitals as well as annual proficiency evaluations and certificates in performance, theory, and harmony. More advanced students may enter in Summer GCSE music exams, AFNA music festivals, MTNA national competitions, and ABRSM certification under the Royal Schools of Music exam board. Participation is not mandatory, but encouraged. Teaching Philosophy: She has always been personally invested in each student’s progress and development, and well versed in how to present concepts in a manageable fashion. Every student is unique in how they grasp new information, so every lesson is customized to each student’s abilities. Her teaching approach is very positive, patient, and non-intimidating. The goal is not only to help students discover their potential and excel in their musical ability, but to foster a lifelong love of learning and an appreciation for music. Affiliations: Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM), Accordion Federation of North America (AFNA), Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), and Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM).
