    About Codi W.

Since coming to Stephen F. Austin State University, I have fallen in love with music over and over again after every rehearsal and lesson. My friends, professors, and students all share the same intense passion for music. I want to share this passion with my students. Some of my favorite pieces I've performed are Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony, Scheherazade, Tannhauser, and Symphonie Fantastique. I believe students should always get to CHOOSE what they want to play. If you don't like a piece, you won't want to practice! It's much easier to practice when it's a piece you have a connection to. We can discuss what kind of music you like or you can play me something you've already been working on. My #1 goal as a music teacher, or as a musician in general, is to share my love for music. I want my students to enjoy their time with their instrument and have fun, while creating beautiful music! A lesson with me would begin with scales. Scales are essential to bettering yourself as a musician. For a 30 minute lesson, I would like to dedicate at least 8-10 minutes of scales. We would then discuss your repertoire, any troubling spots you've had, and how you've been handling and practicing the piece. I would then ask you to play for me and we would go from there. If you'd like to have a one-time lesson, that is A-OK! I'd love to hear what you have to play and give helpful comments, perhaps before an audition, chair test, or competition. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns, future students or parents/guardians of future students. If you would like a different time frame, if I am unavailable during your preferred time, please let me know and we could try to work something out that works for both of us! Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope to hear from you soon! Remember- music is for us to enjoy. It is much easier to succeed in your cello playing if you truly enjoy the music you're playing! Even the hardest runs can put a smile on your face if you're doing something you love.
