Hi, my name is Christa! I am a voice and piano teacher with a background in songwriting and classical piano. I embrace an intuitive and holistic approach to teaching, learning and discovering the uniqueness of your own style in a fun learning environment. I studied voice and songwriting at Berklee College of Music and have been playing and teaching music to adults and children for several years. I bring a relaxed and holistic and also disciplined approach to my lessons, incorporating warmups and exercises, and song performance and interpretation into each lesson, providing you with tools and strategies for you to take away from each lesson. Voice lesson skills might include: breath management and support, pitch control, ear training, music reading skills and various other topics as well. Piano lesson skills might include note-reading, sight-reading, music theory, time and rhythm, finger technique, music interpretation and more. Lessons are always tailored to your learning goals and musical interests!

Christa is a joy as a teacher. She is warm, flexible and a professional in the theories she teaches. Though we are only allotted 30 minutes, I still am learning so much! After many many years from piano playing, she has already given me the confidence that I can do this again. From a more conventional way of being taught piano as a child, she has introduced new ways of learning. Am truly grateful we were connected.

    Independent

I have been teaching voice and piano for several years across New York City, Austin and Los Angeles. My students range widely in age and proficiency level, from 5 years old to 50 years old, from wee little beginners to professional musicians. I bring a relaxed and holistic yet disciplined approach to my lessons, incorporating warmups, exercises, song performance and interpretation into each lesson, and tailoring each lesson to each student’s goals and interests. In addition to vocal or piano technique, we often work on other areas such as ear training, sight-reading, music theory, music reading skills, self-accompaniment skills, etc. I strive to help my students work towards their own musical self-sufficiency, and I encourage them to explore and uncover their own style of playing and singing. I enjoy facilitating their process in myriad ways from helping them choose and transcribe a pop song, to fleshing out their own arrangement of the song in chord voicings, to improvising their own riffs and vocal runs. It never ceases to be a delight to see my students’ excitement as they discover their own voice and ability to understand and make their own music.
