In 2013, Chris opened his own independent lesson studio, The Chops Shop, in Tacoma, WA. The Chops Shop is friendly, comfortable, clean and caters to students of all ages and abilities. You won’t be taking your lessons in a cramped little cubicle. You won’t be pressured to buy lesson packets and method books. Centrally located to Tacoma, Puyallup, Spanaway and Lakewood, The Chops Shop is easy to find, has ample parking, a comfy waiting/reception area and specializes in just one thing: learning to play.

From the mosh pit to the orchestra pit, and most points in between, versatility is one of Chris’s major strengths. A full-time instructor and performing musician, he has studied at Mira Costa College and has been making his living as a teaching and performing musician for over 15 years. As a teacher, Chris provides personalized, flexible lesson programs designed to help the student learn to play what they want to play, while mastering the skills necessary to explore any style of music.

Lessons are tailored to meet your individual needs and goals. Every student is unique and Chris won’t try to squeeze you into some kind of one-size-fits-all curriculum.

Lesson Room has Guitars, Bass, Keyboard, Electronic Drum Kit, Cables, Picks, Amplifiers. Performance/Band Lesson room with P.A., Microphones & Mic Stands, 5-Piece Acoustic Drum Kit, Guitar & Bass Amps. WiFi access and Windows tablet available for use in the reception/waiting area.

Chris has strong skills in a variety of styles, and is exceptionally proficient with classic rock, hard rock, metal and country.

This performance from the Nov. 2013 Puget Sound Music for Youth event at The Swiss features two of my students (14 and 15 years old) on guitar & bass.
This song, featuring my 17 year old guitar student was performed at the Puget Sound Music for Youth event at The Swiss in Nov. 2013.  The 13 year old vocalist was a temporary student of mine, learning to work with a band in preparation for her 'rock debut'.
