I am the band director/music teacher in the small school unified school district of St. David, AZ about 40 minutes southeast of Tucson. I received my bachelor's degree in instrumental music education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. During my time at WMU, I was an active member of the university bands, including the 300-member Bronco Marching Band, pep bands, and concert ensembles. I also studied saxophone as an undergrad and had many opportunities to perform in various settings, including large ensemble, small group, chamber ensembles, and solos. I moved out from Michigan to Arizona in the summer of 2016 to launch my career and secure the job I always wanted to have - a middle school/high school band director. At St. David, I teach band on grades 6-12, one choir in grades 9-12, and elementary/general music. In addition to being a school music teacher, I always love to find as many opportunities to perform as a saxophone player. I'm currently the lead alto saxophone player in the Sierra Vista Community Band down in Sierra Vista, AZ. My personal passion for that of the saxophone is the classical/concert repertoire, however, I can and am willing to teach any kind of musical style/genre, including but not limited to jazz, fusion, rock, etc. Aside from my conservative musical knowledge and training, I listen to most any kind of music in my spare time. My favorite kind is classic rock! Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Creedence Clearwater Revival are some of my favorites - just to name a very short list! My versatility, training, and passion make lessons with my students energetic, stress-free, and fun! I teach students of all ages and backgrounds - from beginning to intermediate to advanced. My curriculum consists of strong foundational skills of saxophone performance (including tone, technique, tonguing, scales, breathing, advanced musicianship, etc.), but I always make it a priority for my students to reach their highest level of potential! My lessons are customized and catered to meet the needs and desires of students on an individual basis. I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a better musician!
