My name is Billy and I am a trombonist/guitarist currently living in New York City. I am studying Jazz Trombone at the New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music in Greenwhich Village. I have a lot of performing and teaching experience, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium and Zankel Hall), Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Jazz Standard, Smoke Jazz Club, and many other venues around the city. I have had several students for both trombone and guitar, and teach music theory, composition, and ear training as well. I have experience in a variety of different styles of music. I really enjoy sharing my love for music with my students, and my main priority is making sure that my students' learning experiences are as effective and enjoyable as possible.

Billy was really kind and patient with my 8-year old son and did a great job helping him to convert from the French solfege system of music reading.

Being a beginner (guitar) I attended my first class with a positive mind and no set expectations. I left class joyous, as Billy mastered to introduce me to guitar theory in such a simplified manner, which made it easy to grasp. I attended my second class last week, and feel that I have advanced/internalized greatly in such a short period. Further, I appreciate that Billy has always been prompt to attend my inquiries. Based on the aforementioned experiences, I look forward to my upcoming classes, and I’m very curious to know the end result - without hesitation, I'm certain it will be positive. Billy is a very gifted guitar teacher, hope he can teach for many years to come - as many can benefit from his great talents.

I cannot say enough about Billy. At first I wasn’t sure what to expect. Billy put me at ease immediately. I find him professional, friendly and extremely considerate. He also tailors each lesson to his client. I wanted to delve more into theory. Billy knows his stuff across a spectrum of instruments. He wrote music for me and gave me the building blocks for more skills. I can see Billy really loves music and teaching. It shines through every time I see him, and that makes me more hopeful. I’d say that’s as much as you can ask for a teacher.

Billy's approach to ear training really helped me a lot! He went at my pace and made references to popular song a to hear chords that, without context, are hard to hear. He accommodated to my way of learning and went from there. I still use some of the methods he's taught me till this day!

Billy is the absolute best! Transcribing rhythms and ear training analysis have always been my weaknesses when it comes to music theory knowledge and finding the right exercises and techniques to improve has always been quite a difficult process to achieve. However, within just a few tutoring lessons from Billy, I started to build a better understanding of music theory as a whole. In every tutoring lesson, Billy was patient, knowledgeable and friendly which quickly benefited my musicality and strengthened my overall friendship and love with music. Thank you Billy!

I've never played Guitar before and since trying to play, I have met so many teachers, none of them really helped and were impatient, but having had Billy as my instructor, I have picked it up so quickly. Its only been a few weeks and I'm playing my favourite tunes. I highly, highly recommend! Very sweet and patient teacher, i'm still taking lessons with him :)

I'm a classical trombonist by training and reached out for help with jazz theory and playing. Billy was an amazing resource who helped me develop concrete playing and practicing skills and become a more confident improviser. He was extremely patient and thorough and took extra time to make sure things would stick. Highly recommended!

I played the trombone when I was a kid but lost interest back then. After not playing for about 15 years Billy helped me to get back to it. We covered reading notes, learning a little bit about music theory (keys etc) and of course playing. I wanted to practice with some songs I like and Billy was able to write the notes down for me. This was super helpful and really made me enjoy playing the trombone again! We practiced in a room in the New School, which was cool since I could play as loud as I wanted, compared to back at home where I usually use a mute. He was very patient and friendly and I can highly recommend him as a teacher.
