Story saved my life from an excruciating death via boredom which was imposed on me by a superstitious Haitian single mother, who firmly believed that the only way to keep my siblings and I safe was to keep us miserable. Every night she had prophetic dreams about our demise which meant most fun things were out of the question. No to playdates out of fear that a parent would turn out to be a child molester, playground time was limited to 30-minute increments because God-forbid we broke our necks on the monkey bar, and swimming was ABSOLUTELY forbidden, for every summer she’d swear that one of us was scheduled for a drowning. Not allowed to do most things kids typically do, I delved into intricate world building. I got lost in my imagination and created plots in my head that ran like a movie. That's when I realized that I wanted to tell stories. The thing about being a writer is that there are different stages to it: from discovering that’s what you must do, to becoming said writer and actually writing, then developing your style and your voice. It took me a long time to learn all these things, and that is what I would like to help you discover.
