Learn about the study of life from a tutor with nearly a decade of experience

I can teach subjects including the biological macromolecules, the functioning and regulation of enzymes, metabolic pathways such as cellular respiration and photosynthesis, DNA replication, transcription, and translation, transport across a cell membrane, the cytoskeleton and extracellular matrix, and many others. We can go over material ranging from the function of organelles within a cell to the function of the various organ systems, or even the interactions of populations of organisms in an ecosystem. Please let me know what subject matter you want to cover, and I will do my best to help you increase your understanding of those topics in Biology.

    About Anuj M.

Hello and welcome. I have a Ph.D. from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Molecular Medical Genetics, the study of the processes that go wrong to result in inherited diseases and cancers, as well as a B.Sc. in Biology from Brown University, an Ivy League university. I have almost a decade of experience tutoring general high school and college Biology, AP Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Eukaryotic Cell Biology, and other, related subjects. For me, Biology is the story of the processes of life and how the interactions of these processes promote life. Thus, instead of treating Biology and related subjects as a set of facts to memorize, I try to explain biological concepts, and to provide the reason for the nature and order of the steps of biological processes, so that they inherently and logically make sense. Regardless of whether you are a visual learner, prefer information presented in writing, or are comfortable with verbal learning, please know that I am willing to try multiple approaches to ensure that you understand Biology or related disciplines. I can also help you learn to apply concepts, including by going over homework or problem sets with you, explaining material from published research articles, and providing guidance on lab reports and even research proposals. I hope you will give me the chance to help you and to share with you the elegance and beauty of the living world.

    Experience

Contract/Independent Tutor (general, molecular, and cellular Biology & Genetics)

    Feb, 2013 - Present

    WyzAnt Tutoring Services

Postdoctoral Research Scholar / Research Investigator

    Jul, 2009 - Jun, 2011

Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa

I conducted research, using the zebrafish model organism, on a genetic pathway involved in the formation of the palate and of congenital cleft palate in a subset of patients.

    Postdoctoral Research Fellow

    Feb, 2006 - Dec, 2008

Division of Experimental Hematology, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center

I conducted research to determine how acquired mutations in a gene could protect against inherited mutations in that same gene. The inherited mutations normally cause a lethal disease, Fanconi anemia, in which the patient progressively lose the ability to make various types of blood cells, but patients who acquired the secondary mutations did not develop the major disease symptoms.
