*** Lesson Details ***
All my lessons are centered on where the student is in his/hers musical development. I will in the first few lessons, assess the student's level and then proceed to recommend a course of study. I am process driven and always try to have my students understand my method so I do try to explain all my reasoning regarding the course of study I prescribe. Every student is different so I approach each individual with total respect for their unique ability and talent.
*** Studio Equipment ***
In addition to the standard music stands, metronome, tuners and music, I have digital recording equipment for student's audition recordings. I have helped college bound students get into serious music programs like Northwestern University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. For students ages 8 years to 9, I recommend the recorder as a introductory woodwind before Flute, Clarinet or Saxophone.
*** Specialties ***
I am a certified Orff Teacher so I use process centered approach even in private lessons.
I have been teaching all woodwinds for over 30 years both in the public school systems and privately. I have worked both in NYC and here in Phoenix metro area. I enjoy working with all levels of students.
Retired from Scottsdale public schools as a music teacher after 17 years there, total of 19 years with the 2 years at Washington Elementary School district. Tony is a great instructor for serious students of clarinet, flute or saxophone. My daughter started with him as a regular 8th grade flute player - not bad, but not great either. Over the course of three years, she has progressed to the point where she made regionals as a sophomore and junior (1st chair orchestra as a junior), and also made all-state as a junior.
My daughter needs a patient and consistent type of teacher, and after a couple of months, Tony and Natalia were working together quite well, as her progress has shown. Of course, Natalia put in the the practice time as well, as she is not quite a musical prodigy, so she has had to work. Tony has supported her all along and been flexible with lessons and time as needed for upcoming events.
My son took saxophone lessons for the last 3 years as well. While quite talented, he doesn't like to work and focus on his music, so he only just almost regional 3 years in a row. That's not really Tony's fault, as he tried to show my son how to get the most out of his practice time, but regardless of talent, music takes work.
I'd gladly give Tony 5 stars for clarinet, as that is his principal instrument, and he is a great clarinetist, but my kids took flute and saxophone from him, which are instruments he doubles on professionally. However, Tony is an honest person, and he would let you know when the time comes for a change to a higher level professional on the secondary instruments. Most students will not ever get there, although it could happen for students planning to make a profession of musical performance.
Awesome teacher! I was really impressed by his thorough knowledge of the instrument and his fantastic constructive criticism!
I haven't had a lesson before, but this gentleman knows his stuff! he can really help clarinetists of all skill levels, I highly recommend him!
First lesson. Very, very helpful. Looking forward to the next lesson.
Anthony is an excellent instructor. I haven't played clarinet in years and in a short amount of time he is providing great instruction on how to get my ambashure back. He's a positive, motivating person encouraging me to be better. He has tons of experience. Lucky to find him+ Read More

Very kind, patient, extremely knowledgeable and professional, good sense of humor. Inspiring. Going to help me realize goals with my instrument I hadn't even considered!
I went to Mr. Masiello for clarinet lessons for years in high school and he has always helped me achieve making regionals every year, making state my last year in high school and consistently holding my first chair in the school band. Although, I did not pursue a career in music, he still had influence on where I am today [DVM in June 2014]. And for that I will always be appreciative. Mr. Masiello is an exceptional teacher and a very amiable individual.
Dr. Masiello has great patience for a beginning adult. He was able to bring me up to a level where I was able to play with my local community band and not feel embarrassed. He pays attention to details that others would miss. I recommend him without any reservations.
I have been taking lessons with Tony since 2009 and I have seen nothing but improvement in the way I play. I saw my biggest improvements when I would audition for the regional band. My score increased each year. I went from 560 my first year to 915 out of 1000 my last. You will not be disappointing when you will take lessons with him. You will continue to grow if you follow his lessons.
