About Amanda M.
I have been dancing for over 25 years! I danced a liturgical/lyrical solo on tour in Ireland at the young age of 16. I have performed on community theater stages, as a back up dancer for drag performers, and even performed a solo all across southern Ireland and in St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. While I loved performing, the more I matured the more I fell in love with the dancing that happens BEFORE the performance! I love taking new classes/workshops so that I can be the best (dancer and person) I can be.
I LOVE to study dance unconventionally in real world situations. (watching the dance between a dog and it's owner at the dog park, the way the field of flowers all ripple like the fan effect of a corps de ballet, how trees/grasses/water move when the wind whips across the landscape, traffic merging on and off freeways, the list goes on forever!) This helps me understand not only my own, and my students movements, but it helps when describing how a movement should feel or look. I like to teach outside the box rather than within a strict set of ideas about how to learn to dance.
I have taught 3 year old through adults. Any adult beginners are ALWAYS welcome!!
Classes tailored to YOUR needs! I love teaching when students not only make progress, but have fun doing it. You show me what you've got, and I can help you dance it better! Whether you need a bit of extra coaching, a lot of extra time spent learning and practicing, or just want to have a class in the comfort of your own home when you have time, I got you covered!
*** Lesson Details ***
Every lesson is personally catered to my students!
We will always assess current abilities before moving ahead to new and/or complicated things. We will always return the the foundation of technique and basic steps to improve advanced abilities. Expect to use your brain as well as your body!
As noted above, I can and will teach students with special needs. I have experience with special needs students, and find them to be a joy to teach. I have worked with students ranging from Down Syndrome, executive functioning disorders, ADD/ADHD, deaf/hard of hearing, and the blind. This type of a student can be challenging, but I eagerly welcome the challenge. I find that when both the student and teacher share in the learning/teaching experience and process, it is mutually enjoyable and productive.
