Hi!! My name is Allison. I am a graduate of Eastern University, not far outside of Philadelphia, PA. I received my BA in General Music with a focus on Vocal Performance in 2008. I studied vocal performance under Christine Devault, Carole Latimer and David Bauer and piano under James Correnti. I also studied dance throughout childhood and college and have an extensive knowledge of music theory, conducting, and composition.
I've spent over 9 years working with children of all ages in before and after school programs and summer camps. I've also spent several years helping with various children's choirs and performing groups as well as helping children and youth in preparing for auditions and performances. I've been teaching group music classes and private lessons for over 3 years now and I'm excited to share my experiences and passion with you!
*** Lesson Details ***
My goal is to make every lesson fun so that my students not only leave my studio having grown as a musician, but also leave encouraged with a smile on their face. I believe that learning should be a fun and positive experience no matter what you want to achieve from your lessons. I plan every lesson around my student; meaning that each lesson is individualized to fit the personality and needs of the student. I am a laid back person, and generally conduct my lessons in that way, however I will adjust my teaching style to whatever is needed by my student.
I do expect all of my students to come to lessons ready to learn and that includes having prepared what I have given them to work on. I don't expect perfection, but I do believe that a student can only achieve what they work for.
I have a wide variety of teaching tools for young piano students, adult piano students, all ages of voice students, and also for music theory if that is something you are interested in. I like to use Alfred's Piano Library for my younger students, but I am also open to other curriculum if you prefer something different. For vocal students I like to use a wide variety of learning tools/techniques and also different kinds of music. I am not against my students picking some of their own music to work on, as long as it is within their range of study.
I am a firm believer that you can only get out of something what you put into it. Every student is different and that is why I move at each individuals own pace. I prefer not to rush a student through something as if there were a quota, because I want my students to have a full understanding of what they are working on. As long as my students come to lessons prepared and eager to learn and grow as musicians than I have the tools, the knowledge and the resources to help them achieve their goals.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate music space: Everett Console Piano, extensive learning materials, other studio essentials (metronome, etc.) There is plenty of on and off street parking around my building, as well as a public library and a playground right across the street from me for the parents and siblings of my students.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical music both piano and voice, and also basic music theory. (Although I could teach more advanced theory if needed). I am very well educated in Vocal Diction for English, Spanish, Italian, Latin, French and German.I also studied Broadway style music shortly and very much enjoy playing/singing in that style and would love to teach it as well.

fun, easy going voice teacher
My 14 year old daughter was nervous about taking voice lessons, but Allison put her right at ease. She asked what types of music/songs my daughter wanted to sing, and they've done both current songs as well as Broadway show tunes. My daughter really enjoys her lessons with Allison.

Great Teacher
Allison has been very patient with me during these lessons, and I appreciate that a lot. I have not been helping the situation due to lack of practice on my own, but will change since I am learning songs that I know. Overall, great teacher and I look forward to working with her as long as I need.
