One of my favorite things about humanity is how we all learn differently. I aim to cater my teaching to each student to best prepare them as musicians, performers, and possibly future educators. I adhere to the "canon" of cello playing, but spice it up to appeal to each student and keep them passionately in love with their instrument.

About Katrina

A little about me personally: I am a native Wisconsinite, an avid cellist, and lifetime music lover. I have been teaching cello lessons privately off and on for the last 9 years and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. In my school years, I participated

I am an adult learning and my first lesson was as good as I possibly dared hope it would be. Valentina is a fabulous instructor, I learned so much in my first lesson and I am excited to be learning from her.

My middle-schooler is taking 45-minute lessons once a week, and she is learning so much in that period of time! The instructor is very knowledgeable and thorough in conveying cello concepts to my 12-year-old.

I can help the student practice and learn their way around the cello in an efficient manner. This means that I will be helping with intonation and other technique by giving exercises for the challenging passages. Lessons will be customized according to the goal of the student. Sharing my knowledge in cello and music is a passion and a goal of mine and I would love to help reach your goals.

About Alexandra

I am currently a student at the Juilliard School in New York. I began to play the cello at the age of 6. I have attended Summer programs such as Kneisel Chamber Music Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, and the Meadowmount School of Music. Before college, I studied with Hans Jørgen Jen

While a bit humbling Alex definitely helped me fix some glaring technical issues, particularly with the bow.

She helped my 12 year old daughter prepare the Saint Saens Cello concerto (1st movement) for a small performance. My daughter played more spiritedly after her session with Alex. She was especially helpful for a specific bow technique.

First and foremost, it is so important for me to get to know you and your musical interests (favorite songs, artists or bands). Once I know a little bit more about you and where your musical interests are, I help you build goals based on what you’d like to accomplish...that could be anything from “just wanting to learn something new and to have fun” to “playing my sister’s favorite song at her wedding in 3 months” or “to join an orchestra and make it my professional goal”. My style of teaching over the last 25 years incorporates technique, reading music, ear training, and improvisation. In addition to the violin, I teach viola, cello and piano/keyboard. The genres I love to teach are classical, rock, pop, jazz, film/tv music, and fiddle!

About Nancy K.

Hello friends! I have been the head instructor of Leggy Fish Music Lessons since 2008. I first studied violin at the age of 6 with Chelain Stevenson from the Phoenix Symphony, studied with various studio teachers, eventually studying with Dr. Phyllis Skoldberg at Arizona State University in my f

Nancy was excellent. She was no nonsense and to the point in her lessons. We never wasted time and I always left with a little more knowledge under my belt. I’ve moved out of LA and have hired other instructors but none as succinct as Nancy. I definitely got my money’s worth with Nancy. I would return to her for lessons if I returned to LA.
Tamsin
Nancy is a wonderful teacher, my teenage son began with her at the awkward age of 14, new to the violin and a requirement of his new school.
She not only got him playing, but instilled a love of music and of composition. Nancy was also incredibly supportive and encouraging as my son transitioned and has a special place in our hearts

New to LA , I found Leggy Fish Music on my second search for cello teacher. I’m so glad I did. Nancy is great teacher , working with me as some one late to music on basics as well as creative methods.
She creates new and different classes - group , and mash up with different musicians and instruments.
She seems to get the best from all her students.

Jennifer
I studied under Leilah for several years and I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. She was my first teacher; she showed me the basics of cello and taught me in Suzuki books 1-6. One thing Leilah does that not many cello teachers do is play with her students. At my lessons, Leilah always had her cello out and was ready to demonstrate a technique or playing style, which helped immensely with my understanding of music. Having Leilah as a teacher has given me the skills and preparation I need to play in college. I would recommend her to any cello student who is willing to work hard to improve.

Ms. Leilah has an in depth understanding of the Suzuki Method but also uses many inventive ideas to make lessons fresh and motivating!

"I have taken lessons with Jessica my junior and senior years of high school.
I am most grateful that Jessica has helped me become more confident in my playing. She truly understands the cello and cellists in holistic ways, examining a student's playing through body language, patterns of playing, sound, and vocal interactions. Her musical knowledge is vast. Jessica is experienced in the piano, violin, cello and has arranged music. She has worked with various quartets and age groups. She has exercises that are perfect for any level of experience, whether it is beginner fifth graders or advanced high school seniors. Lessons with Jessica are fulfilling, fun, and challenging. She will push a student past what his perceived limits are because she knows his potential. I strongly recommend taking lessons with Jessica if you're a cellist looking to advance your skill and musicianship."

"I'm very glad I found Ryan. I was a bit hesitant to take cello lessons because I'm a male in my mid 20s, I've never played, and I was intimidated by the whole idea. Ryan makes it fun and stress-free, he's very patient, and most importantly - he cares! I know he cares about my progress because he proactively met with me on a non-lesson day so that I could tape up my cello and repair the broken string in order to have enough time to practice. I'm very comfortable with Ryan as my instructor and I look forward to my continued progress through his excellent guidance."

"Joey has been a great cello teacher. I like the fact that his experience covers a broad range of music. When I want to make an arrangement of a heavy metal song, or I need to learn the nuance of baroque performance, he's there.
He's a working musician so his schedule is somewhat variable, but he is good about communicating and always comes when he says he will. He's personable and enthusiastic."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
