I think the flute can produce such beautiful and colorful sounds and is a tool for great expression. Therefore, in lessons, covering all the basics of proper tone production, breath support, vibrato, musicality and technique will ensure a solid foundation with which even the highest levels of success can be built upon. The sound of the flute is full of potential for a wide array of colors and textures and can be played in a variety of styles: classical, jazz, funk, Afrobeat, rock, and more. I teach my students through exercises catered to their musical passions. In addition to the basic technical elements of playing, I focus on listening across the musical spectrum. I encourage the use of long tones and air support to improve tone, flexibility, and all repertoire.
