I teach from the earliest beginner through adult. My violin students are currently performing for different schools and ensembles. When students are performing with orchestras, much time is spent working on that music as well as their regular music.

About Diane
I have a degree and certification in violin and piano from the Boston Conservatory as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. I have had additional training and certification as a Suzuki teacher from The Suzuki Teacher Training Institute. I am a member of SAGWA-Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area as well as SAA-Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have played all around the world including the Vatican, White House, Paris, Russia, England and Wales as well as in Concert Halls such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. I have taken students with me to perform as well in these countries and also every major concert hall in the Washington, D.C. area. I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.

Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.

*** Lesson Details ***
I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.

I have also started a toddler music appreciation program geared for the 1-4age range. The purpose of this program is to expose very young children to the fun of Music through instruments, songs and play.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras.

I've taught ages 3 to 35, beginner to undergraduate collegiate level. I can develop your left hand, bow technique, and musicality to the point that you will sound better when you leave a lesson than when you arrive every single time. I will inspire a love for the instrument that will carry through the week with you.

About Gabrielle
I'm a violinist and pianist from West Friendship, Maryland with twenty years of experience on each instrument and ten years experience teaching. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Louisville. I believe in using positive feedback to develop a student's passion for playing music. Beginner to advanced, I can make you a better musician.

Gabrielle has a really fun personality, which only helps to compliment her piano skill. Not only that, but she is very flexible on scheduling, and understands that things can come up from time to time for either the student or the teacher. With this expectation in mind, her lessons really make the most of the 30 minutes allotted, and her skills show as she helps you step through each measure. I've taken piano lessons before, quite some time ago, and Gabrielle was quickly able to adapt the lesson to what I already knew versus what I had to re-learn or learn for the first time. Definitely recommend!

The teaching materials I use will depend on the student's age or experience. I strongly recommend that violin students also have some knowledge of playing the piano; if the student has not studied the keyboard, I will spend about 15 minutes each lesson for the first few months to teach keyboard playing, with the student's consent (using materials such as Bastien and Thompson).
For the first year of a beginning violin student, I prefer to use Rubank Publications, Essential Elements 2000, New Directions for strings (by FJH), and Suzuki book 1-3. We can also supplement the material with Tunes on the First Position, pop music selections, including Disney Solos for Violin, Star Wars Episodes, etc.
For years 2 and more, I like to use intermediate materials such as Violin Scales and Arpeggios -Fingerings based on Carl Flesch by Lisa Berman, M.M., Introducing the Positions and Developing Double-Stops for Violin by Harvey S. Whistler, Suzuki book 4-5, Hal Leonard Violin vol.3- Classical, and

About Janine
Dear friends:
My name is Cheng-Yin (Janine). I am a native of Taiwan, who earned an undergraduate degree in violin performance in Taiwan, further completed a Master's Degree at Peabody Institute, and a Doctorate Degree at Louisiana State University. My minors are piano and conducting. I loved playing chamber and orchestral music, including playing for LSU faculty chamber recitals and serving as the assistant concertmaster of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.
Along the way I also enjoyed many inspiring and edifying experiences as a teacher in addition to being a musician, including giving private lessons (children aged 7-16), providing instructions to undergraduate college students, as well as in group class settings for children's orchestra (grades 2-5). I have a vision to guide students to enjoy playing music, to discover their inn

Janine is excellent with teaching. Very precise, she is very keen on the tone, intonation and rhythm with the playing always trying to get the best out of the student. She progresses with the lessons really fast. She teaches music theory details along the way. She is also an excellent player, her recordings of the lessons are excellent, helping the student in listening to the music. She is kind, positive and very encouraging. I am lucky to have her as my teacher.

OMG my excitement is through the roof after my first lesson with Humberto! I can't even get my feet to touch the ground. I am an adult, basically starting from scratch picking up my violin for the first time in 20+ years having played for a year as a kid. I was so nervous, and feel silly starting at such an elementary level, and Humberto's instruction was not only expert, but his enthusiasm was completely genuine. He was authentically supportive every step of the way and thrilled at every moment of progress. His infectious smile made me feel so safe being a novice starting over and so excited for my next lesson...which he's not teaching me in Spanish since he learned I need to practice my dusty Spanish skills as well! Couldn't recommend him highly enough, love love love Humberto and can't wait til next week's lesson!

My ultimate goal as a teacher is to educate and inspire my students, provoke and develop their interest and love to music and the violin. While not solely using a single method or school, I use a combination of all knowledge I earned as a pedagogue on the multiple continents. I guide each student into the discovery of the most natural, relaxed technique and develop a set of skills necessary to be able to understand, analyze and interpret music of various styles and genres.

About Dr. Tatiana
Praised in the media for her 'dark plush romantic violin sound' (New York Concert Review)and 'thrilling technique and bravura style" (San Francisco Classical Voice) violinist Tatiana Chulochnikova is pursuing an active career as a soloist, concertmaster and chamber musician with performances spanning throughout the United States with groups such as Washington Bach Consort, American Bach Soloists and the Four Nations Ensemble. An award winning violinist, Tatiana is also a founder of the Rubinstein Music Society - organization which strives to uncover the legacy of forgotten and unfairly unnoticed classical composers. The violin has been a constant and enriching presence throughout my life, and I enjoy helping people engage with this instrument that is demanding and rewarding in equal measure. No matter your age or level of expertise, I would be happy to help you along as you discover new musical territory. I’m most fluent in the classical style, but am happy to explore other areas with you as well, from bluegrass to Broadway.

About Kris
I have been teaching the violin to students of all ages and abilities for close to twenty years, and have had great satisfaction in seeing them all grow and develop over time. Some of my younger students have gone on to the Interlochen Arts Camp, and one of my former adult students still makes an annual summer pilgrimage to a chamber music festival in Ullapool, Scotland. Whatever your interest or ambition, I would be more than happy to help you along your way.

In addition to teaching, I am currently a member of the Delaware and West Virginia Symphony Orchestras, a former member of the Huntsville, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and have performed as a substitute violinist with the Virginia Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Maryland Symphony, and National Philharmonic Orchestras. I hold a BM in violin from George Mason University.

I have been teaching violin for six years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements or Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.

Tools for lessons:

Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome

About Phoebe
***Note: I am moving out of the area at the end of June***

Hello! I am a classically trained violinist and violist. I got my Bachelor's degree from the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut and I am currently working towards my Master's at the University of Maryland School of Music. I started playing violin when I was 10 and since then I have also learned viola, piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, and mandolin. I have a successfully maintained a full studio of violin and viola students and can easily adjust my teaching style to meet each student's needs.

As a performer, I have performed in professional opera and musical theatre orchestras as well as on my own in solo violin recitals. I love working on various genres of music with a special place in my heart for contemporary classical music. I have worked with students between the ages of
6-adult, abilities ranging from beginner to advanced players. Feel free to reach out and ask any questions, I would love to hear from you!

Miss Phoebe is an excellent, patient instructor for my two young violinists! She is prompt, and has lots of tools in her tool kit to bring about proper posture, tone, sound. She exhibits a very warm kind discipline that makes clear her expectations without being mean about it at all. I think my kids have made significant progress under her tutelage and I would definitely recommend her for any skill level!

I'm an adult learner who went through Suzuki book 2 and a few other pieces with Phoebe as my instructor. I spent a month prior with a "bad experience" and hadn't taken lessons in probably 10 years before that.

Working with Phoebe was GREAT. She was very easy to work with and really saw to improving my skills. She was encouraging and very positive. When I had troubles with parts (which was often), she would always have multiple suggestions as to how to practice them to work through the difficulties. She also gave me nudges along when I didn't think I could do certain things too. All in all, I had a great experience working with Phoebe and would have loved to continue to work with her if she was still in my local area.

If you're wondering why not 5 stars, that's more from my lack of experience than any issue with her. The guide says 5 stars is the "best teacher ever". She probably was the best teacher ever for me, but I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Is she a good fit for an advanced student, I'm going to guess that, yes, she is, but I don't know that info personally so I went with 4.

All-around wonderful violin teacher! Evan has always been encouraging (and patient!) and made every lesson an enjoyable experience. I've decided to pick up the violin after a very long hiatus and at almost 30 years old - Evan provided a great game plan for me to begin reading music again as well as valuable exercises to improve my form. I'm looking forward to keeping up my violin studies with Evan and know that I've enjoyed my time (and improved my playing ability!) because of his instruction and guidance. I'd highly recommend Evan to any player - young or old - looking to pick up violin for the first time or to further hone their musical abilities.

It is important to have teacher, student, and parents work together to see the accomplishments happen in the future. I make the lessons meaningful, so that my student can retain the information and practice effectively at home. My ultimate goal is to have my student think critically and listen carefully, so that they can become their own teacher.

About Richard
I always wanted to play the violin when I was young, but the opportunity was absent because our family moved to different places. During my middle school, I had an opportunity to borrow a violin from my orchestra class. I didn't know the fundamental so, I started to strum the strings like a guitar. Unfortunately, the string broke and I panicked. My father took me to the music store and that's when I found my first private violin teacher. After taking private lesson for 1 year, I joined the Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra of CA and played with the group for 5 years. Other orchestra experience: Bellflower Symphony, Los Angeles Valley College Symphony, Manassas Symphony, and Washington Sinfonietta. I like to visit Interlochen and Curtis Summerfest for adults to play with other musicians.
My notable teachers include: Ricardo Cyncynates, Rochelle
Abramson, and Guido Lamell.

Music is a universal language and it should be integrated into our lives! Don't hesitate to contact me to schedule a lesson.
