My personal pedagogy is a combination of the basic technical and theoretical aspects of the instrument and what music the student is interested. It is paramount that students of all levels are learning their instrument through performing their favorite music. All necessary technical exercises can be adapted to a specific genre of music. I have many resources and a vast library of literature available for my lessons that I have compiled through my years at Berklee studying with the world's greatest bassists and theorists.
My main goal in every lesson is to be as time efficient as possible. We start with introducing new warm up exercises or new approaches to playing the instrument with confidence and facility. This is important for students of all levels so we can learn the correct ways to execute our favorite music in the most efficient way possible. From there I always spend the most time on the student's goals, like learning a new song or perhaps theory and improvisation. My ...

I earned MM in Jazz Performance, Bass Guitar Major, in 1993, and play/teach lessons for Bass Guitar since that time. My prospective students will receive rigorous training in both Bass Guitar performance and musicianship focused on the specifics of the subject of study. The level that we would begin lessons with will depend on the student's abilities and potentials. We will strive to create professional and friendly working atmosphere, and will begin lessons with careful assessment of the student's performing abilities; we will also set our goals, based on both individual expectations of students and on professional experience of the instructor. My teaching philosophy lies on three aspects; on patience with people; on love for the subject of teaching/study; and on rigorous training, offered to people, for their benefit and general musical development.

Overall, he's a really nice guy with a patient, calm, yet enthusiastic disposition, who is clearly very experienced in music and life in general. I'm an extremely nervous person and it usually takes me a long time to relax around a new person, but he's really chill and I felt pretty comfortable within a few minutes of talking.
I went into my first lesson frankly pretty terrified, and with almost no direction, and I left feeling uplifted with a clear path for pursuing music. The lesson exceeded my expectations by far, I would recommend him to anyone.

My bass experience began later than my guitar experience, but I pursued it just as fervently! Over the last 13 years or so of playing I have played bass in many projects. From alternative, to metal, to folk, to indie-rock. I've been a guest studio bass player on a good number of tracks and still continue to play and teach today. I play bass (in addition to other instruments) almost nightly at the a dueling piano club I regularly play for.
Most bass teachers that also play guitar are really just guitar players that can play their way around a bass on a basic level. However, there is much more to a bass than just playing what a guitar player or other musician might be playing!
The bass is a unique and colorful instrument in its own right. It shares some things in common with a guitar, but has a wide range of its own qualities and abilities. The bass plays a PIVOTAL role in almost all music. I would argue that it is even MORE crucial than many other instruments like guitar or ...

Music is my life. As cheesy as that phrase goes, for me, it holds true. Everything I do and have been doing has been geared towards music. I've been in one working/gigging band or other without break for the past 10 years. I began intensely learning to play guitar at the age of 9 and have not stop

I am 48 years old and have been playing Bass since 9 years of age. I’ve played classical and jazz professionally since I was 14 years old. I play Electric as well as String Bass. I am currently a resident Bassist at the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Club in New Orleans LA since year 2000. I tour extensively having performed in many countries around the world. I teach adults as well as children and feel it is an opportunity for me to give back to the world that which music and more specifically the Bass has given me.

I've been taking lessons with John for over a year now and I've learned so much from his teachings. He has a way of making you feel at home and relaxed during the lesson. I'm partial to playing the Blues but, he has taught me how to relate the different scales to the different types of music.
At this time I'm learning how to read music and understand the theory behind it. The stage that I am at it comes down to practice. If I put in the practice I will be ready to play for that Jazz/Blues band that I so desire.
At the end of my lesson with John, he always find time for us to have a "jam session" be it Pink Floyd's "Money", Eric Clapton's "Sunshine of Your Love", or some good ole' down home "Blues", we get it done! John is a great teacher, musician, instructor and is as advertised!

Looking for a way to make your bass lines move? Bass guitar teacher Miller W. shares his three step plan to creating walking bass lines... The walking bass line is one of the most fundamental parts of American music. It is found most commonly in blues and jazz, but as you learn bass guitar, you will hear its influence in almost any style of music. A walking bass line provides a strong rhythmic and harmonic foundation by smoothly moving from each chord to the next using four quarter notes pe …
