Book NowI have been teaching professionally for the past six years. As a student who struggled myself in nearly every aspect of education, I understand the importance of individualized learning. As a teacher and performer, I look to find relationships between the emotional and intellectual facets of music. By doing this, I try to uncover the mystery of violin playing, allowing my students to gain an understanding that will last with them forever.
Every single student posseses the potential to fulfill his or her violinistic dreams. I cater my teaching around the goals of each student, while still instilling a high artistic integrity.
Though I center each lesson around building a superior technical foundation, duet playing, the theory of harmony, and aural skills are integral parts of my teaching. I strive for my students to develope a beautiful, in-tune, pure sound that can directly connect to their own emotional palette.

I have a special place in my heart for beginning piano students. I treat them more like a grandchild than as a strict classical instructor would. I have eliminated the pressure to learn wherever possible. From the first day, my students learn to read basic music. The lessons I create are customized based on my student's interests, strengths and ability to learn. Each child is unique. Whether they are gifted or special needs, each student gets my full attention. I get a great deal of joy from seeing the faces of my students light up when they accomplish a piece of music.
An intermediate level student holds a special challenge for me. Many times, they come to me having developed bad habits or missing important musical information that could make them a better pianist. I see my role as filling the gaps that they are missing and taking them further from there.
My students come and they stay with me - some for many years. If this is the type of experience you are looking for, then we ...

I will help you learn to make a rich, warm sound on the Flugelhorn. I will also teach you technique that is the same as trumpet technique but with the sound of a Flugelhorn.

From the beginning she tailored her lessons to include the music that my son was interested in and also added increasingly more complex music to work on and master.
Sandra has taped him playing during lessons to show him how and where he can improve in body position, quality of sound and other nuances. She regularly uses her laptop computer to show videos of performances that support the lesson and also assigns various Internet sites to view for exposure to other musicians and styles.
Sandra regularly provides opportunities for my son to perform in public. He has performed at the annual CMEA event at San Jose State University, and other smaller events where he played solo on stage. They have both joined in at a local café for practice in improvisation, as my son loves to play jazz. This has really helped in his jazz solo opportunities at school. She has also organized a quartet of student trumpet players to work together on various music pieces and then they all performed together for family and friends. This was a unique experience for the children to practice and play together and perform as a group.
My son is also interested in basketball and baseball, and Sandra has been very flexible in scheduling lessons to accommodate my son’s athletic and school schedules. After about 6 months of lessons, she offered twice a week lessons to capitalize on my son’s enthusiasm and increase the speed of musical advancement so his confidence soared and he wanted to play more because he liked doing something he felt he was good at. He kept this schedule for about a year and then back to once a week to allow for more time for other interests.
During middle school, my son played trumpet in both the Advanced Band and also Jazz Band classes. This past summer, Sandra again offered twice weekly lessons to get ready for his high school debut. As a result, he was chosen to play first chair in the high school jazz band. He was also one of only two freshmen that were accepted into the most advanced band class (also known at Wind Ensemble) at Lincoln High School.
I recommend Sandra Laverty, without reservation, for any trumpet teaching opportunity.

Really Outstanding."

Pasquale called us as soon as we signed up for lessons to introduce himself, exchange Skype information as well as iron out the best times for lessons.
I played French horn from 5th grade through most of high school and also took some private lessons.
I was extremely impressed with Pasquale. He took the time to really explain to my daughter the mechanics of playing a brass instrument better than I ever heard it when I was younger.
He had my daughter take notes and gave her assignments for the next week.
I am looking forward to watching my daughter's playing grow under his guidance."

So you want to be the next Travis Barker, huh? It's a great aspiration, and you can certainly learn a lot from a great drummer like Travis. But limiting yourself to one style is not the way to go. Read on to learn how Chicago teacher Joel S. suggests you approach it... "Can you teach me how to play the drums like Travis Barker?" Beginning students say things like this to me all the time. It's understandable. We all have our favorite drummers and bands, and we try to imitate their gro …
