I can teach students theory, harmony, ear training, improvisation, how to play their favorite songs, how to create their own music, and how to read both tablature and sheet music.
About Chase
I started playing guitar when I was in the 8th grade. At that time I was into punk, and as I got older I moved into listening to classic rock, then blues, then all sorts of jazz and jam bands, and now classical and sacred art. And my playing of the guitar has following the same trajectory: I play

Our daughter Charis has taken lessons from Chase for over 2 years. From the first lesson, his patient demeanor put her completely at ease. During that time we have seen her understanding of music and her love for guitar continue to grow.
Chase has a unique way of challenging his students to stretch in their ability while simultaneously making it a great deal of fun. I would absolutely recommend him to both the new and seasoned student alike.

I will help you learn to make a rich, warm sound on the Flugelhorn. I will also teach you technique that is the same as trumpet technique but with the sound of a Flugelhorn.

From the beginning she tailored her lessons to include the music that my son was interested in and also added increasingly more complex music to work on and master.
Sandra has taped him playing during lessons to show him how and where he can improve in body position, quality of sound and other nuances. She regularly uses her laptop computer to show videos of performances that support the lesson and also assigns various Internet sites to view for exposure to other musicians and styles.
Sandra regularly provides opportunities for my son to perform in public. He has performed at the annual CMEA event at San Jose State University, and other smaller events where he played solo on stage. They have both joined in at a local café for practice in improvisation, as my son loves to play jazz. This has really helped in his jazz solo opportunities at school. She has also organized a quartet of student trumpet players to work together on various music pieces and then they all performed together for family and friends. This was a unique experience for the children to practice and play together and perform as a group.
My son is also interested in basketball and baseball, and Sandra has been very flexible in scheduling lessons to accommodate my son’s athletic and school schedules. After about 6 months of lessons, she offered twice a week lessons to capitalize on my son’s enthusiasm and increase the speed of musical advancement so his confidence soared and he wanted to play more because he liked doing something he felt he was good at. He kept this schedule for about a year and then back to once a week to allow for more time for other interests.
During middle school, my son played trumpet in both the Advanced Band and also Jazz Band classes. This past summer, Sandra again offered twice weekly lessons to get ready for his high school debut. As a result, he was chosen to play first chair in the high school jazz band. He was also one of only two freshmen that were accepted into the most advanced band class (also known at Wind Ensemble) at Lincoln High School.
I recommend Sandra Laverty, without reservation, for any trumpet teaching opportunity.

I credit this to the fun and relaxing atmosphere Ahmad has created in his studio space which makes it easy to learn, ask questions and enjoy my lessons. He has a deep passion for music which is infectious. I leave every lesson feeling energized and excited to work on my new material.
If you're interested in learning how to play the guitar or improve your skills, give Ahmad a shot. You'll be so glad you did. Before, I thought I just couldn't learn how to play the guitar, now I'm looking forward to years of honing my skills, playing with friends and experiencing the joy of creating music."

Ruth has been very patient and kind with my five year old son. She is understanding and child friendly. My son warmed up to her after his first class and is now very comfortable with her. He enjoys going to piano lessons and is excited to play more complicated pieces."

Darren worked with her every week for about 45 minutes on a particular jazz song. He introduced great techniques that enabled her to learn quickly and become more skillful. Those 8 weeks were very productive as she learned the entire song. Our daughter created 3 videos and Darren helped us choose which one he thought was the best for the audition. After several months, we received the news that our daughter had been accepted into the Berklee music program. Darren is a very positive and encouraging teacher. He is a very knowledgeable and dedicated music instructor and we are grateful to him for helping our daughter succeed. We will definitely continue to have Darren mentor our daughter weekly."
