I have been teaching guitar for over 30 years and have had the privilege of studying with some of the finest guitarists in the world which include Aldo Minella, Sulaiman Zai, Javier Calderon, Dr. Lily Afshar, Benjamin Verdery and Kevin Gallagher. I also studied jazz with Berklee professor Sal Difusco and Chris Buono.

As a teacher. I have been a high school teacher for the past 20 years and am certified in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a history teacher. I have worked with all types of learning styles and test preps. As an educator, I have gone through all the background CORI checks already.

If you are taking lessons at my studio I just wanted to alert people that we have 2 very friendly English Cocker Spaniels. This is obviously important for people that have allergies to know.

Thank you for reading my profile.

I really enjoyed working through beginner/intermediate classical guitar with Gene. He was always prepared and very knowledgeable about the different pieces we were working on. He helped my technique tremendously, and structured my progress in a way I wouldn't have been able to do myself. If you are serious about wanting to learn guitar I strongly recommend getting a teacher, and if you live in the Boston area I highly recommend Gene.

Hannah was the music director at the Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, Iowa for the past three years, and was a wonderful addition to our congregation! I serve as the pastor of that church, and was always impressed with Hannah's ability to help not only plan the music for worship - this include weekly hymn selections - but also her incredible singing voice and vocal range. She will be missed dearly, and I do not hesitate in the least to recommend her expertise and skills in teaching.

About Scott
Hello fellow music lover!

My name is Scott, and I'm a musician with 15+ years of performance experience. I've studied performance at Berklee College of Music and performed in various configurations from funk/soul ensembles, to folk-rock bands and I write my own music that I perform as a solo artist.

I love teaching because it allows me to share my love of music and help people grow creatively in the direction of their choice. My feeling is, if you're choosing to invest in your artistic development, it should be an enjoyable experience based around what you're interested in learning about. To that end, all of my lessons are customized to the tastes and preferences of each student. We'll identify the goals you'd like to work towards, the music you want to play and take concrete steps in line with your creative vision.

My areas of e
xpertise include folk, blues, rock, soul, funk and pop music with particular interests in songwriting and improvisation. However, I'm versatile and open minded, so I'm willing to apply my skills to help you learn any style or sound that you are excited about!

Cheers,
Scott

Scott taught me introductory drums. Scott is warm, funny, and adaptable - he made learning fun and easy for me. I didn't feel dumb when I made mistakes, in no small part because Scott was very encouraging and pointed out the things I was doing well!

Another reason to take lessons with Scott - he's incredibly talented and plays multiple instruments. For example, I wanted to practice playing drums in a "band" setting, so Scott grabbed an electric bass and we started jamming.

10/10 would recommend, especially if you like laughing a lot while you learn a new skill!

I started playing the clarinet when I was 9 years old. It was a silver clarinet. For my 12th birthday I received a Conn tenor sax. Went to a club with my dad and heard for the first time Boots Musulli, a Charlie Parker disciple and found a way to take lessons from him. I was 15 and couldn't drive so I had to take a bus an hour to each lesson in Milford, MA. Throughout high school and college I played in every big band available, usually lead alto. At New York University I had the good fortune to play with the great saxophonist Dave Liebman. In 1986 I studied jazz improv with Jerry Bergonzi in Boston.

In 1981 I created and directed the Vermont Law School Community Jazz Ensemble and in 1985 created Jazz Vermont, a band camp for adults, now renamed just, Jazz Camp. That program continues on into its 35th year. The Jazz Camp progr
am has allowed me to get people back into music as many of them stopped playing earlier in their life.

Love jazz, love bebop, Count Basie, Rob McConnell, Sammy Nestico arrangements.

and especially the jazz duets that Boots wrote out for us to play. I still have them.

Music has an uncanny ability to communicate without words the often indescribable. Whether you are looking to start the violin for the first time or are picking it up again after a "sabbatical" I'd love to come alongside this journey and work with you, your child, or for that friend of yours you've recently convinced to play again. I believe that a solid foundation and technical mastery widens the artistic palette of expression; giving the player the freedom to take their art in any direction they desire.

This space is not nearly enough to express the amazing encounters that my family has had and continues to have with David France. Our son started with a 30 minute weekly lesson on the violin under David at the very tender age of 2 1/2. Knowing the short attention span of a child that age, David used his creativity to keep him engaged during lessons, practice while at home and to keep returning each week for more lessons. One technique that he employed was a recorded message to play at home to motivate him to practice; all we had to do was play his recorded message & watch our son run to pick up his violin to start his practice.

We can proudly say that he is now almost 13 years old and continues to progress on the violin and is a member in 2 Senior Orchestras here in Bermuda. He is the recipient of several music awards, including a scholarship and an Honorary Music Scholar Award.

It was a very big loss for us when David departed Bermuda but always look forward to him returning as part of the faculty for the special BRAVO! violin camp. He is very inspirational, kind and generous with his ears & time and is a great role model. We're very fortunate that he continues to be a part of our son's violin journey.

We can honestly say that thanks to David, our son is still loving his violin and musical journey!

I had the honor of joining the Roxbury youth orchestra of Boston in 2016. David was always so constructive and was always helping us to be the best player we could be. Every lesson had structure, and he would move us along once we mastered basic skills and prerequisite goals. Of course, it was challenging, but he allowed us to make mistakes so we can learn from them.

Even though we are in different states now, he still keeps in touch and is always there for my kids. Because of his help and encouragement, my son just won the Sphinx! You couldn't ask for a better teacher!

About James
Hi! I’m James, a drummer, composer and teacher based in Boston, MA. I gave my first drum lesson when I was 13 years old, and recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Drum Set Performance.

I began playing the drums when I was 10 years old, and was fortunate enough to find an incredible drum teacher a year later. He was kind, encouraging, and incredibly positive. This was quintessential in fostering my love for music and the drums, and I seek do the same for my students.

I love teaching the drums, but the most valuable skill I can teach is how to practice them. Teaching a student to practice in a way that guarantees results empowers them to learn anything they choose, musical or otherwise. Regularly pushing past musical boundaries sends positive ripples into the rest of life. This sounds like a
hefty promise, but its true: transcending your limits on a weekly basis will increase your self-efficacy.

I’m currently involved in 3 projects, ranging from jazz to prog-rock and metal. These projects are very specific, but I am comfortable teaching a wide range of styles. I typically start new students with rock and pop music, while also teaching exercises to build fundamental technique.

I prefer to travel to students for lessons, but am happy to do lessons via webcam or at my practice space in Brighton. I’ve found that students prefer to show me what they’ve been practicing on their own drums. In addition, this lets me teach them to set up and maintain their own instrument.

I look forward to hearing from you, and working with you or your kid! Please feel free to message me with any questions or inquiries. Thanks for reading.
